While the return of the original trilogy in a renewed version with Mass Effect Legendary Edition is getting closer, several former members of BioWare have retraced the stages of the problematic development of Mass Effect Andromeda, revealing new details on what is today the last chapter released of the franchise.

Mass Effect Andromeda: Various discarded alien racesIn a recent interview with TheGamer, the senior writer of the third chapter, Neil Pollner, said: “I think Andromeda's was a project that could never have lived up to expectations. The bar of expectations was very high after the conclusion of the original trilogy, people expected that in a completely new galaxy there would be more important innovations. The reach of the first Mass Effect was so incredibly vast that with Andromeda there was this 'inherent promise' that players would have an equally amazing experience, especially in the alien species to encounter. But we were granted a limited budget for only two alien races, plus the Remnant ”.

Mass Effect Andromeda: Various discarded alien racesContinuing the speech, Pollner revealed that “we could never have included all the species of the Milky Way and we could not have let you travel freely in the new galaxy. So we had to develop the story starting from these obvious limitations and cut out aspects such as the 'first contact' experience with the new alien species ”. This was echoed by another Mass Effect writer, Chris Helper, according to whom the initial concept of Andromeda included insights into at least five or six alien races. However, as described by the director of the design department, Dorian Kieken, they had no human anatomy, therefore they would have headaches in development.

Probably the goal was to ensure the identification of the fans in the different characters of the Helius Cluster.
