Burnout Paradise Remastered - Review

Review for Burnout Paradise Remastered. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 16/03/2018 The version for PC came out on 21/08/2018

Criterion Games was one of those houses that he decided to remastering a lost game with previous generations of console. We are talking about Burnout Paradise Remastered which brings various improvements without going to recreate the polygonal models from scratch, thus reducing development costs, but at the same time obtaining an overall quality not comparable to modern titles.

It is now clear how titles from past generations will appeal to longtime gamers, as well as young people who want to get closer to these titles that have made history. In fact, very often we hear about remasters, ports and remakes that somehow all have one thing in common, that is to bring back a game that otherwise would not be easily playable by most users. Developers often go to retouch what is the graphics sector to make it suitable for standard models, without changing the experience and gameplay of the game itself.

Welcome back to Paradise City

All players of the original version of Burnout Paradise will remember the wonderful Paradise City, characterized by so many places to explore and as many geographical references. It was already possible at that time explore the entire city freely: you could in fact roam in any direction testing our new racing cars and at the same time honing our driving skills.

With the Remastered version all this has remained, in fact from the first start you will be introduced to the game world that does not have menus to go to one race and another or settings to customize the car or to buy a new one: you will have to bring to the place of the race or the workshop, making everything much more realistic and less cumbersome. As was the case ten years ago to start a new tender will be enough make a skid before a traffic light, so as to start the activity assigned to that area.

As the first car you will be assigned a junk remedied at one of the junkyards of Paradise City thanks to which you will learn the basics of driving and the use of the turbo. Then you will be introduced to the workshops, present in every corner of Paradise City, thanks to which you can repair your vehicles which will tend to get damaged during competitions.

Burnout Paradise Remastered - Review

The Burnout of ten years ago

From the point of view of the gameplay, as we have already mentioned, no particular improvements have been introduced in fact the game is practically identical to that of ten years ago. In fact, we will have to make our way through the ranks of the best drivers, obtaining more and more prestigious licenses and at the same time facing increasingly important and difficult events. The challenges to face range from simple track races, to more unusual challenges such as "man in the crosshairs" where we will be required to reach the finish line before being destroyed by the opponents on duty.

Unlike the racing titles of recent years, in Burnout Paradise during the races no predetermined route will be indicated to follow, in fact there will be no giant luminous arrows before a curve, which forces us to study the route before the race, choosing the best roads and perhaps using some small shortcuts. To help us, however, there is a small compass that will continually show us the destination, which together with the road signs, which will pop up near it, will suggest the best way to take at that particular moment of the race.

Lots of content!

Along with the Remastered version of the game, all the additional content released at the time was also included, making the final game experience extremely complete and varied. Overall we are talking about eight DLCs, including: Big Surf Island, Cops and Robbers, Legendary Cars and Burnout Bikes which includes four new bikes (FV1100, FV1100-T1, Firehawk GP Competition and Firehawk V4).

Also present is the beloved Party Pack, local multiplayer mode (up to eight players) which will allow you to challenge your friends in Skill, Speed and Stunt challenges. It will not be necessary to connect any additional controllers, in fact the challenges will be faced in turn, passing the controller from time to time to the next opponent.

Burnout Paradise Remastered, thanks to all these DLCs, will keep you busy for many hours allowing you to get your hands on many vehicles, ranging from racing cars, motorcycles, massive Roadsters and legendary cars. Even if it is a simple Remastered, which therefore does not offer gameplay improvements or changes to the graphics, we were more than satisfied with the title, and we are convinced that even those who have never played the original version in the past will be able to appreciate the beautiful Paradise City.

A good restoration

From a technical point of view, being a simple Remastered, we must say that the final impact does not differ too much from the games released in recent years, also thanks to the fact that already ten years ago Burnout Paradise had a decidedly advanced technical sector. The improvements are focused on textures, lighting effects, resolution and fluidity general of the game. On the other hand, the various polygonal models of buildings, cars and vegetation have not been modified, which catches the eye already from the first race.

Our test was done on a PlayStation 4 Pro, which allowed us to play one 4K resolution with a frame rate of 60 FPS. The general fluidity of the game is indisputable, in fact it never moves from 60 frames, which results in a unique experience during the races, especially in the moments when you touch very high speeds, where fluidity is a fundamental parameter to capture everyone. the smallest details.

The audio sector also seemed good to us, both from the point of view of environmental effects, cars and dubbing and music. Burnout Paradise playlists from ten years ago are still present, with artists who made history, such as Avril Lavigne with Girlfriend, a song that is now indelibly linked to the world of Paradise City. However, there are also Guns'n'Roses and Iron Maiden who will accompany us during our travels in the city and in the various races that we will face.

Burnout Paradise Remastered - Review

Burnout Paradise Remastered is a gift for fans of the series who loved the freedom and sense of speed that this specific title offers. In this edition, in addition to the substantial graphical improvements that adapt the game to modern standards, all the expansions released for the original version have also been added. Overall we are satisfied with this remastered, both because in a certain sense we lacked Paradise City, and because we were pleased to note the willingness of the developers to re-propose titles that have made history, even if a few more improvements would have been welcome.
