Destiny 2 PC - Review

Review for Destiny 2. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 06/09/2017 The version for PC came out on 24/10/2017

The launch of Destiny 2 on Playstation 4 and Xbox One has aroused moments of happiness and anger in users, given by the choices of the developers at times quite questionable. In our review for the console version, we covered in depth all the strengths and weaknesses that the production of Bungie brings with it with this new chapter of the Destiny series.

With the arrival of the PC version of the game, too PC users have finally been able to embark on this improved adventure from every point of view, which thanks to the intervention of the developers boasts a graphic quality unattainable by the console version and on a very well optimized general fluidity.

Destiny 2 PC - Review

The beginning of the end

The first cut-scene that is shown to us in Destiny 2, after the creation of the character, is the attack of the emperor of the Cabal on the Traveler, with the aim of taking it over. After this attack, we will lose the light and we will have the sole objective of regaining it and defeating the emperor, so as to save the Traveler and all the people who were forced to flee.

Therefore, once our adventure has started, we will immediately notice a substantial difference compared to the first chapter, that is the narrative component, which is much deeper and studied guaranteeing about 8 hours of entertainment which, in most cases, also allow the achievement of the level cap (set at level 20). The campaign is distributed on all available planets, so as to also provide us with a general overview of all the environments and the various "lost sectors" present in the game world. The planets are the following four:

  • Io
  • Land
  • Titan
  • Nessus

On each of them there will also be many "adventures", which will be real secondary missions from which you can get excellent equipment (of a rare type) for your future missions. Distributed in the various areas there will also be a considerable number of public events thanks to which, if transformed into heroic events, you will be able to obtain exotic equipment, which in the End-Game will be essential to reach the maximum level of power.

Activities and End-Game

Once you have reached the maximum level and completed the main campaign, as in the first chapter, the race towards the achievement of the Cap for power will begin, reachable by obtaining equipment more powerful each time. These can be obtained thanks to all the activities present in the game world such as: Assaults, public events, clan activities, Crucible and many more.

In addition to these "basic" activities, assaults and raids will be made available that will be carried out mainly in the company of friends or in any case people who can communicate with you via a microphone. From these activities you will get extremely powerful equipment that will allow you to pass the 280/290 power threshold and reach the much desired level 305 (maximum level for the moment). As you increase in power, you will notice many differences from the first one, such as the high simplicity in obtaining certain exotic and legendary gear, or the resolution of many problems encountered in the crucible and which have contributed to worsening the overall gaming experience.

As for the End-Game, we find ourselves at the same levels as the console version, even if the complaints have not yet been there as practically no one has managed to reach the maximum level. The problems in question are mainly based on the lack of activity once the maximum level is reached, in fact, many players after a short time have abandoned the game waiting for updates from Bungie, which promises massive free updates in addition to paid DLCs that will be released over the years and that, in addition to increasing the threshold of power, will probably introduce other equipment, items and activities to be carried out in Destiny 2.

PVP, Nightfall and Raid

As for the console version, even on PC at launch, only the "special" activities were made available Nightfall (Normal and Authoritative) and matches in PVP in the Crucible which, however, does not allow us to choose the method we prefer, but is limited to two choices: Fast and competitive match.

Each one will catapult us into a random game that varies depending on the chosen mode. By choosing quick match, you can play the following matches:

  • Team Deathmatch: Classic mode that involves the clash between two enemy teams, with the aim of reaching a certain score before time runs out. The team that reaches the maximum score first or the one with the higher score when the time runs out wins.
  • Brawl: Free-for-all mode, which highlights our survival skills and our general skills in dealing with many enemies at the same time.
  • Supremacy: Mode that consists of collecting blue seals generated every time an enemy is killed. We will also have to collect the red seals generated by the death of our allies so as to avoid getting more points by the enemy team.
  • Quality check: Mode also famous in many other shooters which consists of conquering and defending various areas scattered around the map.

With regard to the competitive mode instead, the following game modes will be present:

  • Survival: Each team has eight lives at their disposal, which will decrease every time an ally is killed. Once the lives are finished, any kill suffered by the team will be final and once the entire team is killed, the opponents will achieve victory
  • Detonation: New game mode, also present in other shooters such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The clash will take place between two teams, one that will have to plant the bomb in one of the two available spots, and one that will have to defend.

Regarding the mode PVP Trials of the Nine, which replaces the Trials of Osiris of the first chapter, these are clashes between two teams formed without matchmaking that will collide in the 4v4 detonation mode. If the team manages to get a total of seven victories, they will have access to the Pinnacle, a social area from which interesting rewards can be obtained. As for the console version, even in PC mode, the Trials of the Nine will only be available at a later time, more precisely from November 3rd.

Raids are also not available at the time of writing this review, but will only be available from November 1, the day here it will be possible to take part in Leviathan, the first Incursion of Destiny 2.

Graphically advanced

Thanks to the collaboration with NVIDIA, Bungie and Vicarious Vision have managed to create a PC version exceptional for both visual impact and fluidity. As long as you have a suitable configuration, in fact, you can reach a native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, which in a shooter like Destiny are almost vital in PVP, but are also useful in the various battles in PVE.

However, those who do not own a PC worth thousands of euros need not worry at all, in fact the developers have managed to create a extremely scalable graphics engine, which allows even those who do not have a high-end configuration to play in complete tranquility. There are many settings, which can be modulated in order to maintain the much desired 60 fps, or which can all be set to Maximum / High, to enjoy an exceptional visual impact, also thanks to the extreme optimization of lighting, shadows and particle effects, which offer glimpses capable of leaving even the most critics speechless.

The time required for the release of this PC version seemed more than justified given the results proposed, which they manage to improve the gaming experience in every aspect of graphics and fluidity, so as to give a completely new experience compared to what has been tried on consoles in recent weeks.

Honorable mention also for the servers managed by Bungie and Activision, which again managed to withstand the incredible amount of players connected at the same time during the launch of the game, allowing everyone to play in absolute tranquility without sudden crashes or errors. any kind.

Destiny 2 PC - Review

The PC version of Destiny 2 represents the definitive experience of the Bungie shooter, thanks to an improved gameplay thanks to the use of mouse and keyboard, and thanks to the not indifferent graphic improvements that make this version the best from every point of view. Speaking instead of the game itself, as for the console version, there are problems in the balance of the PVP and above all in the choice of modes, in fact inside the crucible it is not possible to choose the mode we want to face, but it will be the matchmaking to assign us one. random depending on whether we are playing in competitive mode or in a quick match. Some doubts also about the End-Game, given the scarcity of activities to do, but we are confident in future updates, both free and paid, which could allow the game to remain in vogue for a few years as already happened for the first chapter, which remained in the hearts of many players from all over the world.
