Injustice 2 Legendary Edition - Review

Review for Injustice 2. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 16/05/2017 The version for PC came out on 14/11/2017

Last year Injustice 2 made its debut on our platforms showing itself as a solid and fun game, distinguished above all by the amount of content, capable of entertaining for a long time even in single player. The signed title NetherRealm earned general critical acclaim and satisfactory sales, as well as numerous international awards despite competing from titles such as Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2.

As is now the habit of the team led by Ed Boon, after the game's release a period of continuous support began to smooth out some imperfections, as well as to enrich the title by adding new characters, released over the following months in the form of DLC. After about a year it finally arrives Injustice 2 Legendary Edition, which contains all the additional content released so far in a tasty package that should appeal to any fan.

The base game remains essentially the same, so for its analysis we refer you to our review of Injustice 2, while in this we will analyze the new content available in the Legendary Edition.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition - Review

So let's start with the most interesting element: the roster. As mentioned, Injustice 2 Legendary Edition includes all ten fighters so far available only as DLC, namely: Red Hood, Starfire, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Hellboy, Black Manta, Enchantress, Atom, Ninja Turtles and Darkseid (bonus character originally intended for pre-orders). Without a doubt these fighters are a considerable addition to the starting 28, and it is pleasant to see how NetherRealm has continued to give space to lesser-known DC faces (albeit balanced with other more famous ones) and interesting guest stars.

The new DC entries are well characterized and discreetly differentiated, especially Atom with his ability to change the size proved to be a very special fighter. After the positive reception of Scorpion in the first Injustice, in this sequel Mortal Kombat doubles its presence with the iconic Sub-Zero e Raiden; While there were many to believe that other characters would have preferred instead of the Thunder God (such as the coveted and murmured Spawn), both turned out to be more tactical fighters than expected thanks to their moveset, and surely they will delight lovers of the historic fighting game.

Even more interesting and fun are the outsiders Hellboy and Ninja Turtles, of which we liked the look very similar to the 90s movie; the latter are represented in the roster by Leonardo, who will be able to call the brothers into combat through special moves, but in reality each of the components of the reptile quartet is a fighter in his own right with his own move set; on balance then the number of additional characters is 13.

In addition to the new warriors, Injustice 2 Legendary Edition also packs all the premium skins dedicated to owners of the original Ultimate Edition. While some are just alternative costumes for the fighters, others aesthetically transform them into another character; for example Flash has a skin that will make us wear the shoes of Reverse-Flash, of Lanterna Verde we will be able to use the John Stewart and Raiden can be "transmuted" into Black Lightning. Obviously the moves will be the same, but NetherRealm has had the foresight to give it personal depth with customized dialogues and voices.

For Injustice 2 Legendary Edition, the developers have also introduced a useful tool both for experienced players who return to discover new characters, and for newbies who are approaching title 2 for the first time. We are talking about the Gym mode, a tutorial divided into categories that will take us by the hand from the basics of the game dynamics to advanced combat strategies, as well as explaining the moves and combos of the individual fighters. A welcome addition to a title that is accessible but not easy to master at advanced levels.

In addition to a general update that brings fixes to some bugs found and various balances, the news for those who have already stripped the original title at the time do not stop with the new fighters. The level cap has in fact been raised to 30, new equipment has been introduced and a new skill slot is now available. There are also 12 new trophies for completists. With the release of this definitive edition, it is also to be expected that the online community will be populated again with old and new players; a perspective to consider if you have strayed from the title due to the physiological depopulation of online servers.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition - Review

If you are a lover of the DC Comics universe and have not yet got your hands on Injustice 2, the Legendary Edition is definitely the right opportunity to remedy, by immediately accessing all the post-launch DLCs baked by NetherRealm. The base game remains basically the same with all its strengths and weaknesses, so if the original title for some reason hasn't convinced you, you will hardly change your mind, but we are still talking about one of the best fighting games of last year and in general one of the best. ever in single-player entertainment. Even the players who bought the title at the time should evaluate this upgrade, given the substantial amount of additional content capable of still giving several hours of fun.
