LEGO Worlds - Review

Review for Lego Worlds. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 03/07/2017

The premise of LEGO Worlds is to make us become real "master builders", in the magical universe of the most famous colored bricks on the planet. Warner Bros and TT Games relaunch the title released in early-access exclusively on PC more than a year ago, and they do so by publishing the game on all platforms in its final version (including Nintendo Switch, the version of which will arrive later). The early access to the game caused a sensation, and many users were fascinated by the possibility of entering the LEGO world so closely, but soon everything vanished and nothing was heard of LEGO Worlds for months and months.

We got our hands on the final version of LEGO Worlds for PlayStation 4, and this is our opinion.

BECOME A MASTER BUILDER

In LEGO Worlds we are immediately thrown into the fray, and after a meager character creation let's jump right into the action. We therefore find ourselves with our spaceship crashed to the ground, on a mysterious and unknown planet. The first Worlds are clearly guided, and allow us to take hand with the most important mechanics of the title and this is how in a very short time we get our LEGO-hands on everything we need and then leave to explore the real Worlds. .

Among the tools for coloring, building, deforming the landscape and copying, the first to be discovered by your character is the fundamental discover-objects, which allows with a sort of scanner to make your own everything that the imaginative Worlds offer you, and then rebuild them or eliminate them from the landscape. After a poor hour of play here your character will be able to do everything an experienced master builder needs and your journey can finally start without any boundaries.

IN SEARCH OF GOLDEN BRICKS

The most important thing in LEGO Worlds is the collection of the golden bricks that allow your spaceship to reach bigger and bigger planets, therefore with more resources, animals and characters to discover. How are these important bricks obtained? Our LEGO alter ego will have to perform some simple mini-quests, that many NPCs scattered in the various planets will trust us.

Missions can range from building something, coloring a certain structure, or taking a photo of object X.

LEGO Worlds - Review

Although the basic idea is initially very interesting, here is where LEGO Worlds begins to waver, since already after the collection of 15-20 bricks the execution of the quests becomes quite boring and game progress can stop. To get the "Create your planet" mode moreover it will be necessary to collect 100 gold bricks, and we assure you that being the repetitive and sometimes really badly done quests, reaching such a high goal could be an insurmountable obstacle.

During the exploration of the planets it will obviously be possible to build what you want but under certain conditions. In fact our character will not immediately have all the pieces available LEGO base to build, but he will get them by chasing green beings that occasionally pop out of the ground. An interesting mechanic, which however already after a few hours of play begins to show its limits. The tool to build is also not very precise, and to erect a simple wall or a comfortable house, it will be necessary to tinker with the pad in a very uncomfortable way since the interface was obviously designed for PC.

A TRUE EXPLORER

Exploration in LEGO Worlds is everything, and the various planets we visited turned out to be very well constructed, ranging from volcanic biomes, countryside landscapes, urban environments or immersive forests. Worlds are also full of other characters, who can be hostile or friendly. Engaging in combat with some enemies of the landscape turns out to be a simple use of a button, which often and willingly (especially at the beginning) will almost never allow you to have the upper hand.

But rest assured, because in full LEGO style, once made into a thousand pieces, your character will immediately come back to life. Where we enhance the beauty of the planets, here we must once again point out some problems. There are numerous bugs and technical problems of various types, which can make some sectors of the planets almost unplayable.

The graphic sector of the title instead is the type of LEGO games, with one almost maniacal care for the bricks that have been reproduced in an amazing way. Audio compartment which turns out to be well done, with a fantastic Claudio Moneta to the narrator.

FRIENDS AND BRICKS

Not lacking for cooperative game lovers multiplayer mode, available locally or online. In fact, it is possible to use codes that lead us directly to the planet of our virtual friend for hours and hours of fun in company. A cooperative mode up to 4 players will be interesting in the future, but for the moment the multiplayer sector is still fun, and greatly expands the interest of the game that unfortunately in single-player could soon tire.

LEGO Worlds - Review

So here we are ready to draw conclusions on our adventure in LEGO Worlds. The game of Warner Bros allows us to immerse ourselves in the role of a master builder of the most famous bricks on the planet, with a procedural system of congenial Worlds and that will not fail to give amazement and fun. But the other side of the coin is much darker due to some questionable gameplay choices such as repetitive and poorly done quests, a boring piece retrieval system, the absence of crafting mode right away, and quite obvious technical issues that make it uncomfortable. and the construction is not very functional.

The question we ask ourselves is: was LEGO Worlds really ready to get out of Early Access?
