Monster Hunter World - Review

Review for Monster Hunter World. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 26/01/2018

Well yes, after so many months of hype, videos and three open Betas, we are now at the time of our review of this hunting game inspired by Dark Souls, but with horned beasts and dinosaurs! Before fans of the series lynch us, we would like to point out that in reality we are not absolutely serious about this last statement, however, something about the general disinformation that has pervaded the web regarding the title must be said. Monster Hunter in the West is a relatively niche series, contrary to the enormous success and fame it has held in Japanese territory for more than a decade, consequently it may be normal that this "Monster Hunter" appears as something new to the average Western user. .

Monster Hunter World - Review

This discourse gives more weight to the fact that Monster Hunter World is unquestionably one of the best games of this new 2018 that has allowed a little-known series like this to depopulate and drive the web crazy welcoming a large number of users, especially in the West and of course, in Spain. A popularity that not even Ryozo Tsujimoto, historical producer of the Capcom series expected: but what is really so special about this title arriving on January 26 on Playstation 4 and Xbox One?

Whether you are a veteran or a novice, the time has come to find out!

Monster Hunter World - Review

Welcome to the New World!

This canonical fifth installment of the series takes place in the New World, a continent discovered about forty years before the events taking place within the title. A new expedition we will be part of will be tasked with uncovering the mysteries that lurk on the continent and why elder dragons, at regular intervals of ten years, make a crossing to this mysterious place.

The series never shone in terms of storyline, however the significant extra effort on the part of the team as regards the plot appears immediate, especially if we are talking about a title where the gameplay is based on hunting monsters. With a good cast of voiced characters, for the first time also in Spanish and a couple of twists and turns, World wants to return to Home Console in the best possible way, and the story is only an outline compared to what is still to be done. unveil.

The refresh that Monster Hunter needed is finally here

If you follow the series even from the latest titles on Nintendo Nintendo 3ds, your reaction to the first trailer of E3 2017 can only be positive. Too many years had gone by without giving the graphics sector a good repaint, but what happened was a real revolution. From the majestic Ancient Forest to the warm Wild Spiers and from the sumptuous Coral Plateaus to the dark Putrefatta Valley. The scenarios present in World are able to convey to the player an unmistakable sense of fidelity to the environment that surrounds them, with breathtaking views and those particular attention to detail that suggest how much the Capcom team has spared no expense even in terms of ideas.

Finally, everything is made fluid and stable at 30 fps on the basic versions of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (with some rare and short drops), but Pro and One X allow three different settings according to which to prefer FPS, resolution or graphic effects. A further positive note is earned thanks to the incredible customization of the hunter and the Felyne, made incredibly larger and richer.

The Gameplay, soul of Monster Hunter, shines more and more radiant!

Was anyone afraid that Tsujimoto and his team's desire for change could affect what makes Monster Hunter unique? As we explained to you a month ago after the first Beta sessions, there is no fear of the gameplay, which is once again the spearhead of the series. Monster Hunter World shows itself in its majesty and magnificence thanks to the New World, incredibly rich in scenery in a succession of adventures between assignments, expeditions and bounty hunts. Together with the inseparable Felyne we will enter the cloud of mystery that hovers in this continent, making their way between a battle and another against various monsters, between new and old acquaintances.

Capcom did its math well, This time with an eye on those who would like to approach for the first time in this series thanks not so much to facilitations, as to simplifications in the game mechanics, made accessible even to those who have never chewed the genre until now.

For example, the new forging system of tree weapons allows for greater foresight regarding the weapon you want to wield in the future and, if the final result is not exactly what you expected, you can very well regress one step and take back the materials used for the forge (or improvement) of the weapon. Other possible examples are the new object quick selection system - the correct use of which allows for timely use of objects in the most critical phases - or the automatic assignment of "points" materials to the object box at the base, so to avoid long walks from one point to another on the map during collection missions.

In addition to what has been said so far, there are many other small ones improvements made specifically to give better comfort to old and new players. On the other hand, the procedure remains unchanged, as it should be, through which you are empowered by creating new equipment, given by the farming of a certain monster through repeated battles against it.

Hunting is fun, but it's even more fun together!

The Battle System was what frightened the old guard fans the most, watching the first trailer for E3 2017 in which the hunter used the grappling hook to cling to monsters or these that attacked each other. Paradoxically, World manages to make itself incredibly faithful to its nature as no changes have ever been made to what is the basis of the combat system, if anything, there have been several innovations to surround and further enrich the raids of hunters. In reality, some of these innovations allow the player a slightly more strategic approach thanks to an incredible interaction with the surrounding ecosystem, never happened in a Monster Hunter.

In this fifth chapter we will in fact be able to take advantage of a slingshot capable of throwing different types of ammunition - from stones to pods of fire - which can distract the monster and induce it elsewhere while it discovers the guard, or collapse the rubble that swoop down on the enemy if thrown with the right timing.

Nature itself will be our ally if exploited properly, such as the quicksand of the Wild Spiers and the dam of the Ancient Forest or they could be our enemy, such as the toxic clouds of the Putrefied Valley. Knowing where and how to move can prove to be your ace in the hole, also and thanks to - and here the old fans will rejoice - hitbox revisited and more precise. Just like the latter, even the moveset of the hunters - depending on the weapon equipped - have been improved with new combos or special moves.

Indulging in a mammoth and deep combat system will be incredibly enjoyable and will expand countless times the approach that the player will have within his hunts. But what will make these countless hours of gameplay enjoyable and rarely redundant? We have already technically spoiled the answer in the title of this paragraph: multiplayer.

Pioneering the 3DS era with Chapters 4, Ultimate and Generation acting as guinea pigs, the series has proven itself far beyond expectations in its Online mode. Now the time has come to bring multiplayer to Home Console, platforms that are certainly much more performing than a Nintendo 3DS in terms of hardware. Realizing the incredible popularity that World would have gained all over the world, Capcom has done well to introduce some innovations that will facilitate the group experience. First, the possibility of creating or joining a team for the purpose of creating a private hunting club, whose sessions are visible only to members who are part of it. In addition, the new “drop-in” function comes to the rescue of the unfortunate who will find themselves alone after starting a multiplayer quest.

Trying to make the concept clearer, you just need to know that in the past a simple network mistake by another player could leave you alone in a rather difficult mission. Thanks to the drop-in, a hunter could join your game session even while you are already engaged in a hunt and if no one were to show himself of his will you can always launch an SOS rocket, which will communicate a request for help to all connected users. Ryozo Tsujimoto himself, producer of the series, has repeatedly encouraged collaboration between online users, urging even veterans to welcome and route newbies who are approaching the genre for the first time. And for those who don't know - and it is a must to specify before launch - all additional content related to monsters and collaborations which Capcom will release for Monster Hunter World they will be free, exactly as it has always happened in previous titles, regularly stimulating the desire for challenge of all hunters.
