The Elder Scrolls Legends: Heroes of Skyrim - Review

The Elder Scrolls Legends: Heroes of Skyrim - Review

It's been almost a year and a half since that day in April 2016, when Bethesda unveiled the closed beta of its fantastic card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends. As we have said and repeated several times on these pages, this game is very well researched and full of interesting mechanics, and since its beta we have glimpsed its enormous potential, as we then wrote in March on our review of the officially released game.

Later on, additional cards were released monthly as a reward to the ranked seasons, as well as a real adventure dedicated to the guild of assassins who have fleshed out our collection well, and of which you can find our review here. Now Bethesda decided to take the first real step forward by facing the denigrators who saw no support head on and proposing to everyone the first expansion completely dedicated to the world of Skyrim: his name is precisely Heroes of Skyrim.

    Login and offers

Bethesda goes big by completely changing the look at the login screen: it reflects the new expansion showing off a great style and pathos in order to make us immediately identify with the most suitable mood.

If before we could simply buy the normal 100 gold packs (or pay real money), now we can choose whether to buy classic packs or packs of Heroes of Skyrim; alternatively, exclusively with the use of real money, we will be able to purchase special packs that include both classic and Skyrim envelopes. The more money we decide to spend the more packs we will get and with the more expensive packages we will also receive as bonus decks containing guaranteed legendary cards.

To celebrate the arrival of the expansion, Bethesda also offers a welcome package, at a fairly low cost, which will guarantee 10 packages of Heroes of Skyrim and the exclusive title: “The Dovahkiin“.

    New mechanics

Heroes of Skyrim brings a ton of new content with it, and we're not just talking about the new 150 cards available in this set. First of all, for all those who were eagerly awaiting, finally there are many dragons available to create a themed deck that is nothing short of legendary. We've been testing a dragon-focused deck for several days and we can say without a doubt that it turns out to be extremely fun and beats opponents as if they were made of butter, as long as you're skilled enough to survive the early game.

Aside from dragons, the very famous Skyrim Screams have been included. Screams work like spells, however they have three power levels, which increase as they are used. If a scream is played, all screams in the deck of the same name will level up and gain additional effects, up to the third level which is devastating.

Finally, the last mechanic included in the game is that of the Transformation of the Werewolves, which are played as simple humans and then completely transform into new powerful creatures when an opposing rune is destroyed, obtaining enhancements to attack and life but above all interesting. skills.

    Legendary rain

The new set could not miss new Legendary cards able to make a difference, and in fact 33 new cards are added to the fray. Among these there is also a dragon for each color, but for those who want to create a draconic deck, the "Alduin" is inevitable, which destroys all creatures on the field and summons a dragon from the graveyard at the beginning of each turn, "Paarthurnax ”, Which will generate three random Screams in our hand, eliminating their cost, and the“ Dragon Mound ”, a support card that transforms all the cards in our deck into random dragons, lowering the cost of one Magicka point.

Then there are the legendary heroes of the legend of Skyrim. Strength cards include “Aela the Huntress” in their ranks, which deals damage to her summon but once transformed into a werewolf destroys any damaged enemy creature. Between the ranks of the Intelligence cards are joined by "J'zargo", the Khajiti who will give us a scroll that will generate random effects when summoned, and the tall elf "Ancano", which deals 5 damage to a target of our choice and will donate the Breakthrough ability to our Actions.

Among the heroes of the Will cards we can find "Legato Rikke", who will summon an Imperial Soldier in the opposite area every time we play another Imperial card, "Lydia", which with its special Guard ability is able to protect both zone, and the “Jarl Balgruuf”, who will summon two creatures and automatically win the game if we have the field full at the start of the turn.

Among the Agility are joined “Swim-at-Night”, the Argonian who will upgrade himself every time we play cards at 0 cost, and “Brynjolf”, who will give us extra Magika every time we use the Steal or Drain skill. The Resistance cards are enhanced with the "Innkeeper Delphine", who will transform into a warrior immune to dragons if we play a dragon or a Scream, and the "Emperor Tidus Mede II", which at the end of each turn gives an upgrade to the first creature of our deck.

The Elder Scrolls Legends: Heroes of Skyrim - Review

The new expansion of The Elder Scrolls Legends: Heroes of Skyrim delivers what was promised and much more, thanks to a large amount of powerful cards able to enter into synergy with each other, as well as thanks to new mechanics that make everything even more varied than it already was. If before the game had great potential, now that the first adventure and the first expansion are out we can breathe a sigh of relief and admit to ourselves that Bethesda is doing a great job, even when it comes to periodic tweaks of the cards that are too weak or too powerful.
