We have now left winter behind us, and a warm holiday would be ideal, perhaps in some lush Caribbean archipelago! Tropico 6 not only catapults us to white paradisiacal beaches, but even puts us at the head of an entire Caribbean state, and we will have to lovingly take care of it… Getting rich as much as possible!

Tropico 6, developed by Limbic Entertainment and published by Kalypso Media is, like its predecessors, a management game where, in the role of El Presidente, we will have to make the imaginary Republic of Tropico thrive, made up of an archipelago of tropical islands and islets (in fact), some fertile and lush and others harsh, volcanic but very rich in resources.

Tropico 6 - Review

As per tradition in certain turbulent areas of Central America, even a Tropico the elective nature of the highest government office is, as it were, a kind of proforma. El Presidente (and therefore us) is very happy in his role as leader of the nation and will do everything to remain in office for many more years, thus resulting in the elections ... A mere formality!

As already seen in the previous chapter, the Tropico 6 campaign also takes place through four distinct eras, specifically: the colonial age, the world wars, the cold war and the modern era. Each era will be presented to us by our faithful right hand, the Penultimate, who will remember the good old days with joy and transport, obviously always alongside its stainless President.

Logically, each era will have its own unique set of situations, events and special buildings that we will have to learn to manage and deal with. In the colonial age we will have to deal with smugglers and the Crown of England, while during the cold war we will be struggling with anti-nuclear bunkers and tensions between superpowers, just to name a few.

Regardless of the historical period, our main activity will always be to put "to good use" the different islands that make up our Republic, since in Tropico 6 our management is not limited to the main island only but includes the entire Tropican Archipelago. . In more modern times we will even be able to connect the various islands and islets with spectacular bridges, so as to further facilitate the passage of people and goods, which is always guaranteed by the presence of ferries and boats of various kinds, provided that we have built on each it costs at least a meager pier, if not a huge commercial port!

Much of the game time we will spend managing relations with the various factions and sub-factions, both internal and international, carrying out tasks or fulfilling requests for one or the other party. These "missions", as well as the obvious cash rewards or new construction projects, will change the diplomatic balance of Tropico, raising the approval of a certain faction towards our work, but perhaps tightening relations with the rival faction . Often multiple requests will also arrive at the same time, perhaps too often. It is certainly a lot of fun trying to navigate between the various factions, trying to shape the balance in our favor (always remember that the ultimate goal is not to make Tropico prosper, but its President!) However, especially in the more advanced campaigns, the continuous requests will become a little too nagging and repetitive, thus risking to accentuate a repetitiveness of situations which, unfortunately, tends to be inexorable after a while.

In addition to this, another mechanic that risks becoming a little too intrusive and monotonous is that of trade routes. In Tropico 6, much more than in its predecessors, great importance is given to the economic management of imports and exports, with more or less advantageous contracts to be examined and signed, upon payment, in order to be implemented.

This part of management was not badly done but, in our opinion, it has been made a bit too fundamental, overshadowing other mechanics that are certainly more dynamic and fun such as citizen control with associated arrests, corruption, etc. and extra-map raids, new option present in this last chapter which, after the construction of special buildings (different for each era) will allow us to carry out profitable, but risky, secret operations of "foreign policy", such as pirate raids, assassin commando and such amenities.

Tropico 6 - Review

To complete all the scenarios present in Tropico 6, without spending too much time on certain objectives, it will take about forty hours, minutes more, minutes less. The basic difficulty is not very high, allowing a regular player of management titles to see all that Tropico 6 has to offer with very little effort. Fortunately, the online and sandbox modes help to significantly extend longevity but, as already mentioned, the specter of a certain monotony still hovers over the game.

Technically speaking Tropico 6 does not make you cry a miracle but it is not to be thrown away either. The islands and buildings are very well rendered even if they certainly cannot be defined as ultra detailed. Ultimately the graphics, also considering the type of game, does its duty anyway very well, as well as the sound, of which we really appreciated the dubbing in Spanish and the background music, salsa and merengue style of course, which enter into head but never bothering.

In conclusion, Tropico 6 turns out to be what it seems at first glance: a colorful and fun game after all, not too demanding but with a discreet charisma, suitable for aficionados of the series and for those who want to approach the management genre without too much effort and with a good dose of irony. A good title, ultimately, a bit penalized, however, by a certain imbalance between the mechanics and a not too latent monotony. More could have been done, but that's okay anyway.
