Two Point Hospital it could be considered, without fear of shooting it big, as the spiritual sequel to one of the funniest titles of the "Old School" of gaming, the unforgettable Theme Hospital.

Two Point Hospital fully collects the legacy of that great title, both as a setting and mechanics, but also with the same ironic and cartoonish attidude, reworking everything in a key more suitable for today. To reinforce this link with the past we also have the same title development studio, Two Point Studios, formed largely by ex - Bullfrog, the creators of Theme Hospital (and the Theme series in general).

Two Point Hospital - Review

With Two Point Hospital we are therefore talking about a management game. In this case, as rightly indicated by the title, we will have to take on the role of medical director of the hospital department of the imaginary and over the top Two Point County.

The management model that we will be called upon to undertake is of an American-Anglo-Saxon style, as the structures that we will manage are exclusively private and do not have public subsidies. In practice, it will be up to us to make ends meet, decide in which fields of research and innovation to invest, regulate payroll and manage personnel. You know the legendary Doctor Bob Kelso of Scrubs? Here, the model to follow is just that!

Despite the subject matter, the atmosphere in Two Point Hospital is light-hearted and ironic. The character traits of patients and employees, the funny and ingenious nature of the diseases we will have to deal with and, above all, the madness of the "therapies" that we will have to devise, make the game light and fun. But be careful: despite the goliardic atmosphere, the management part has not been left to itself.

However, Two Point Hospital remains a management title and, especially in the more advanced stages of the game, we will certainly have our work cut out to cover costs, innovate and, most importantly, heal many patients. Because we must never forget: a cured patient is a happy patient. And a happy patient pays!

Two Point Hospital - Review

The first part of the game looks like a kind of very long tutorial, very dynamic. Each scenario and situation that is proposed to us is preparatory to the assimilation of a particular mechanics of the game, starting from the selection and management of personnel, up to the maintenance and maintenance of sanitary machinery and various environments.

One of the main components, and also perhaps one of the most complex of the entire game, is precisely the management of personnel. As you can easily guess, having a close-knit, motivated and efficient team is undoubtedly the key to success. For this reason it is essential not only to choose the employees, each belonging to a specific class (doctor, nurse, assistant and janitor), each of them with specific skills. The character traits of each employee, even here cheerful and ironic, are to be taken into consideration very well: putting together two quarrelsome nurses will often cause quarrels, while if all the staff have as a defect being "a dirty man" (we swear that the description is exactly this, ed), in short we will find the wards more resembling a landfill than a hospital!

In addition to the staff (and their pay) we will also have to think about the patients and the facilities needed to treat them. We will therefore have to create pleasant waiting spaces, refreshment points and services, as well as of course the various specific departments for diagnosis and therapies. In conclusion, even if with a light-hearted way, we will certainly have a lot to do to keep everything going like a well-oiled mechanism.

Comparing it with other management systems, not necessarily with the same theme, we can say that Two Point Hospital has also suffered, as happened with the recent prehistoric park simulator Jurassic World Evolution, a certain general simplification, probably to make it attractive to a wider audience. Mind you, it is not that there is nothing to be done, as we have specified a few lines above, but we will almost never encounter extreme situations or crises that are really difficult to overcome, even in the rather demanding advanced levels. All this will make the most uncompromising players turn up their noses and, in the long run, will certainly undermine the longevity of the game a little.

Two Point Hospital - Review

Technically we are faced with a very simple title in terms of graphics and sound, but made to perfection in terms of success. The cartoonic graphics fit perfectly with the general atmosphere and the sound, especially the jingles of strange advertisements that pass our “diffusion thread”, make everything even better.

Two Point Hospital could have undoubtedly given more on the management side, but what it offers is very well structured, making the game enjoyable and fun, as well as suitable for everyone. Wanting to find a fault, we feel a little lack of a sandbox mode with which to build our dream hospital in total freedom, but even just completing the campaign will keep us busy for at least a good twenty hours or, if desired perfect each of the hospitals built, even more.
