Welcome back to Seacrest County

We had left ten years ago, leaving behind one of the most beautiful and varied environments that the NFS saga had ever given us, if not the most beautiful. From the national park of Boulder Desert passing through the Big Timber Forest and ending at the snow-capped mountains of Big Timber Crest, the memories surface very quickly.

The game has changed a lot, the already suggestive setting is now really well rendered and allows you to enjoy splendid sunsets at the wheel of racing cars such as the legendary McLaren F1 or the Gumpert Apollo S. Continuing in your career, you can unlock different cars, divided by category and price range. Choose carefully, why there are cars that are more suitable than others depending on the type of surface on which you will find yourself racing.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered - Review

The driving model of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered follows the now famous and proven "NFS model", nothing simulative but adorably arcade. Forget everything that isn't pure speed: no drifting, no drag racing, no weird stuff. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is old-school NFS: dream supercars, tablet throttle, and police flashing lights in your mirrors.

Here too you can drive the police cars, thanks to the enrichment of the gameplay with the two downloadable contents at the time, namely "Arms race"And"Wanted # 1". A nice element is given by the new management of shortcuts: if before it was enough to follow side roads that cut curves and hairpin bends, saving you time, now it is necessary get to know the map better because not all shortcuts represent shorter routes than the main route. Eye, the wrong shortcut can cause you to miss a race or go straight to a roadblock.

The aim of the game is always the same: to raise the reputation and, consequently, to attract the attention of the Police. The advice we can give you is to don't spend a lot of money on cars in the beginning, because as there are no upgrades and modifications, the car will remain as it is. Getting to prestigious and performing models as soon as possible is essential on this title, because the defects of a car are absolutely not masked or circumvented with upgrades.

The police are aggressive and will promptly try to smash your car with rear-end collisions and neutralization maneuvers, so try to make chases last as short as possible because being destroyed is equivalent to an arrest. At the storyline level, there is in fact nothing. Forget Payback or Heat, it's an old concept game and it makes you understand it from the start.

Graphics and Audio

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered got a nice refresh. The whole interface has been revised, the lights and shadows are managed in a more functional way and, especially as regards the night, it does not seem to run in the middle of pitch darkness, as it happened in 2010. The car models are more refined, even if they are obviously not comparable to current titles. The settings are visually and significantly richer compared to the previous version, both in terms of elements and in terms of particularity of the seabed.

Going from the desert to the snow-capped mountains is truly impressive and performing in photo mode is truly rewarding. In the most hectic situations, there is some drop in frame rate, but nothing that can really bother you. The audio has always been very accurate, the various types of engines differ well and the environmental effects are also well achieved. Soundtracks? In full NFS style.

Multiplayer

The online Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered has undergone profound reinterpretations compared to the original 10 years ago, aligning with the latest titles in the series. First of all, let's talk about a title "cross play“, So you can challenge your friends on different platforms, which further amplifies the catchment area you may find yourself challenging. In fact, being on the streets of Seacrest County is the same as always being online.

The time you register in the various events will end up on the leaderboard and you will know immediately if a friend has beaten you or if you have beaten him. This makes the title virtually infinite, with repeatable challenges in search of unattainable time or the best trajectories to beat the time set by your friends. If the time attack is not enough for you, don't worry, the game makes available head-to-head challenges, chases and hours of fun. During the review, it was not possible to experience the online mode much, however the game did not show uncertainties at the server level.

Yet another remastered, some would say. Maybe yes maybe no. As already mentioned at the beginning of the article, making a comparison with Need For Speed: Heat or even just with Payback would be as useless as it is unfair. A Remastered cannot be expected to transform a game of ten years ago into a game of 2020. Hot Pursuit Remastered feels the weight of the years, and it is undeniable, to say otherwise would be hypocritical. The beauty of replaying ten-year old titles helps to better understand how in reality the soup of certain sagas is now always the same, because it goes round and round there is always the guy on duty with a troubled past, a selection of cars which is basically always that, a city that changes its name almost every time and more or less corrupt cops to escape from. Need for Speed has always been this, either you love it or you hate it, speculations leave the time they find. If you're not a fan of car customizations and, for once, you can refrain from making your BMW highlighter green with red rims (too cool, huh?), Give it a try. If you have played the 2010 version instead, you can safely skip ahead and get a more recent chapter.
