Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Review

Review for Ultrasole and Ultralun Pokémon. Nintendo 3DS game, the video game was released on 17/11/2017

As practically every year, Game Freak e Nintendo are back to surprise us with a new title dedicated to the saga of Pokémon. In November 2016 we witnessed a real revolution in the saga, thanks to the innovations introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon: among these we can find the new Z moves and the related crystals are used necessary to activate the aforementioned skills, together with the new Alola forms, that is, alternative forms for some specific creatures, peculiar to the new region inspired by the Hawaiian paradise. Despite this, most players were convinced that the two aforementioned titles were the last resort for pocket monsters at least on Nintendo 3DS, given the presence of the new console Nintendo Switch. Despite all this Game Freak he wanted to try it one last time, once again arousing the interest of fans.

Before starting there is a necessary premise to be made; the new Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are not real sequels, but titles that offer the same narrative universe, but with an alternate story and with a greater amount of content than their predecessors.

Once the game is started we will find ourselves face to face again with the fateful choice between the 3 now known starters, namely Rowlet, Litten and Popplio: obviously the early stages of the game will be well known to all those who have played Sun or Moon, while for those who have unfortunately skipped the aforementioned titles, this will be an excellent opportunity to immerse themselves in a totally new adventure, considered one of the best games of the series proposed by Game Freak in about 21 years.

Yet many of you could frame this new title as a sequel to the previously reported titles, as already happened for Black and White, but it is not so: it would be easier and more appropriate to consider it as an episode that enriches its predecessors, similar to what happened with Platinum or Emerald. One of the many novelties is represented by the ultra-arches and what the player can do inside them, which will present a variety of settings and situations totally different from those we saw a year ago.

As for the gameplay of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, we can say the game lacks actual new mechanics, as it takes up what was already seen on the last trip to Alola, one of the many examples could be the return of the PokéRelax. For this modality a small parenthesis has to be opened; as already happened with the Poké Me & You, trainers will be able to pamper their creatures, heal them and feed them with cookies that you can find in Pokémon centers, both outside the battle and at the end of the fight.

We recommend that you use this feature often, as it will be possible to cure status problems and to raise the level of friendship between Pokémon and trainer through this option, considering that in case of poor use the monsters will not obey your orders in battle, making everything more difficult.

Some new features concern one of our most trusted adventure companions during the first adventure in the region, namely the Pokémon plasma Rotom: in fact it will be available from the earliest stages of the game within our Pokédex, as in the two previous titles, yet this time we will be able to use it much more thanks to the Poké Roll, a mini game with an operation similar to that of a Slot that we will allow you to acquire "powers", very useful to gain more experience, experience or to catch Pokémon much more easily.

In addition to this there are also the new Surf Mantine, which broadens the concept of Poképassage already seen previously and the new Fotoclub, which brings a breath of fresh air to the aforementioned system., with the introduction of frames and effects applicable to our shots. Impossible not to mention the new structure called "Fighting Agency", excellent for all coaches who want to try their hand at 3v3 battles, thanks to some Pokémon borrowed from players that we will meet randomly.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Review

As for the graphic sector of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon there is not much to say, as it is the same already used in Pokémon Sun and Moon; Nevertheless, it must be specified that such graphics truly represent an excellent goal for Game Freak and for the game developers themselves, as they have managed to push the capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS to the limit.

In fact, playing on the aforementioned console or on its XL version, you will notice in some phases of the game (especially in the three against three fights, with graphically heavier moves for the hardware) some frame drops, often quite significant, given that the FPS will fall. below the threshold of 20. If instead you face this new journey on the new generation Nintendo 3ds (New 3DS, New 3DS Xl, New 2DS and New 2DS XL) the aforementioned problems will be much less frequent, if not zero.

We conclude by talking about the audio sector, which as usual does not disappoint, in fact the entire soundtrack is made up of well-made songs and tones that are very reminiscent of typical Hawaiian tunes, each suited to our trip to the Alola region.
