After having tested the shores of all the other consoles over the years, Resident Evil 5 benefits from a new port that sees it land 10 years after its first release in the unexplored territory of the Nintendo Switch. The original work, which initially arrived on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and then arrived - also thanks to his Gold Edition Remastered - also on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it benefits from the onerous best-selling chapter title ever of the Resident Evil series, from the top of its over 11 million units sold; numbers that make it clear what the impact of Resident Evil 5 on the market was at the time.

The Nintendo Switch edition of Resident Evil 5 essentially re-presents what was the original product, or a third-person shooter heavily focused on cooperation of the two main characters, who will have to make their way through hordes of ravenous enemies, supporting each other both in the attack phases and coordinating to advance in the course of the game: take control of Chris Redfield e Sheva Alomar in the torrid African territories it takes on a very particular taste on the small screen of the Switch, in a final product in which the tension is no longer given by the often phases of stasis alternating with moments of pure terror typical of the series, but more by the sensation of encirclement and continuous challenge with a more arcade flavor proposed by Resident Evil 5.

With all due respect to those looking for something with a more diluted rhythm, but which allows you to better emphasize the most excited phases, Resident Evil 5 very often plays the role of a pure action where you will find yourself dealing with parasites Las Plagas, endowed with powerful contagion capacities and capable of making even the most meek inhabitants of Kijuju hungry for blood and mortally dangerous. Chris and Sheva's aim will be to recover Irving, a mysterious arms dealer about to sell a dangerous weapon on the black market.

Resident Evil 5 - Nintendo Switch Review

The moments in which to breathe, in Resident Evil 5, will be very few: as we have already mentioned, the proposed formula is that of a mainly linear game with environmental puzzles reduced to a minimum, with a much clearer push to shooting phases that will keep us busy most of the time. Precisely because of this marked push towards the action part, ten years later some mechanics clearly feel the weight of the years, including not being able to move and shoot at the same time, allowing the player to fire only if firmly planted on the ground. An impediment with which you will soon learn to live, but which certainly will not simplify life in the phases characterized by tighter clashes, which will have to be carried out with a wise combination of escapes and gunshots.

Although the allied AI does not stand out for brilliance, it all takes on a diametrically opposite shape when played alongside a real-life player, who be it found through the multiplayer mode of Resident Evil 5, both through the use of multiplayer that allows you to play cooperatively with other users on the same Nintendo Switch, with the Joy-Con that will each control one of the two characters in the split-screen.

What fascinates most, even in this case, is living the experience with today's most natural transfiguration in hand for virtual rifles: Joy-Con and their motion sensors. In this way the title acquires an edge and succeeds in entertain in a great way, thanks to a level design designed to perform better in the presence of two human and sentient players.

From a technical point of view, of course, Resident Evil 5 on Switch still feels the weight of the years, although he knows he does not fail to defend himself in a more than dignified manner in various circumstances. The impression is that the modernization work could have been done in a much cleaner and clearer way, especially from the point of view of the frame rate which, despite always remaining close to acceptable thresholds, stutters slightly on several occasions (a little as happened in the other console versions).

The Nintendo Switch version of Resident Evil 5 will allow players to benefit from all the additional content released regarding both the story and the additional modes that will provide an additional level of challenge for the players: among these they return Versus and No Mercy, while it was added Gathered Mercenaries, a new variant that will test the player with waves of enemies to face alone. To all this must be added several new costumes and customizations for the two protagonists, modifiable both from the point of view of the paraphernalia and from the aesthetic point of view, with exclusive costumes for both characters.

The port of Resident Evil 5 on the Nintendo Switch could satisfy all those who still have to try the work of Capcom. Thanks to the decade of distance that separates us from the original release, a deeper restoration work would have been desirable, even if the title is still enjoyable, especially for those who would like a work more focused on the action part and less on the survival horror one. .
