Sleep Tight - Review

Review for Sleep Tight. Game for Nintendo Switch and PC, the video game was released on 26/07/2018

The monster under the bed has terrified generations and generations of children, hiding in the shadows, ready to ambush as soon as each of us had shown the intention to escape from the blankets. Every flap of skin outside the sheet could represent a mortal danger. After years and years of unchallenged terror, the time has finally come to make him pay. The children of Sleep Tight say enough to the domination of monsters and shadow and stand up as champions of a good nap. Their arduous task will be to survive as many nights as possible, defending themselves from the waves of monsters that will try to get the better of them and, of course, over us players.

Sleep Tight - Review

Come with me if you want to sleep

The main purpose of Sleep Tight is to survive as many nights as possible from the attack of the monsters. Initially you will have to leave with Joe, the first of the heroic children to be available as soon as the game starts. As we survive the nights we will unlock other characters, each with different peculiarities and characteristics, giving us the opportunity to face enemies with as many different approaches.

The battlefield will always be our bedroom: during the first night we will be armed with a single fully loaded gun, with which to face the first wave of monsters (very easy to overcome) without reporting even a scratch. After a few minutes of play, the day will come, chasing away the monsters and giving us the opportunity to implement our strategy. Inside the bedroom there will be four modules (bed, game table, toy trunk and desk) each having its own function.

This is where the gameplay comes to life, with the strategic component having a fundamental part in the game economy: without adequate and studied planning of resources and defenses we will not last that long. Without ammunition we will be helpless until the sun rises, while without turrets or barriers we will be easily overwhelmed by monsters. In a nutshell Sleep Tight, from this point of view, is more strategic than anything else: it will not matter to be good in the movements within the battlefield or to be equipped with good aim: without a draft action plan we will capitulate. It is therefore necessary to plan and study what to do night by night, very carefully.

Baby Economy & Strategy

There are two different currencies to spend in the game: the suns and the stars. The former will increase as we survive the nights of battle, being assigned to us every time the sun rises. The stars, on the other hand, will be dropped to the ground by the monsters that we dry up. Whenever we survive a wave of monsters and the day comes, we will be able to spend these currencies in various ways: Research, Weapons, Health, Upgrades. Of these four areas, the most important is certainly that of Research: in fact, through it we will be able to unlock new development possibilities also in other areas, as well as conquer new fundamental skills for survival, such as increasing movement speed. Also interesting is the possibility of spending stars to have Sun units in exchange and vice versa: these possibilities open up to various options, allowing us to adjust our purchasing power based on what we need but without exaggerating.

Sun and stars will also be spent on upgrading our bedroom by placing walls, turrets and other defensive structures that will help us get the better of monsters, but at a cost. These, in fact, will be damaged during the assaults and it will be up to us to choose to reinvest our resources in repairing them or let them wear out and then build them again. Contrary to what one might think, walls are the most effective defensive structure to create, place and maintain: thanks to them we will block the advance of monsters, which not only will not be able to touch us, but will also become easy targets, saving us both shots what health. In the event that the latter are scarce we will have to recharge our resources at the bed. If, on the other hand, we wanted to change weapons during the assaults, we will have to go to the toy basket to develop them. However, all of them will share the ammunition that we are going to supply, so we will also have to measure the hits. There are rifles that fire more than one shot at a time, and if you aim at them, the ammo will run out faster than expected.

The strategy, in short, weighs a lot and it will only be thanks to it if we manage to survive for nights and nights. But be careful: in the long run, the game mechanics become a bit repetitive and boredom, after a few hours of play, begins to be felt.

Sleep Tight - Review

Darker is the night….

Sleep Tight immediately captures thanks to its colorful setting, day or night. The pastel colors enliven the environment and make the atmosphere that We Are Fuzzy wanted to create with this title very well, thanks also to the deformed graphic style adopted. The soundtrack will undoubtedly drop you in the part of the little heroes, during the struggle for survival: lively during the assaults, light and relaxing during the day. Pretty but not so much that it remains so impressed that you dream of it at night. From a technical point of view there are no drops in performance, or at least we have not encountered any during our hours of play, which offers fairly stable performance.

Sleep Tight - Review

Sleep Tight is a title of few pretensions but which, in its small way, leaves its mark: it blends the strategic component, albeit preponderant, with that action, resulting in a very enjoyable title. Due to the mechanics themselves, however, it turns out to be a bit too repetitive in the long run, which may be fooled by trying to set new records with the different characters. Despite this, in the short term Sleep Tight will entertain you like few others of its kind.
