One of the most loved Tales of by the fanbase, in the past difficult to find on Sony platforms as it was released only in Japan, finally arrives in the West, presenting itself in a new renewed guise. To celebrate the XNUMXth anniversary of the JRPG we're talking about, Bandai Namco realizes Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, this time available also in Spanish and on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. Fans of the series will certainly not be able to resist the temptation to accompany Yuri Lowell and companions on this new journey, which will begin the next 11 January.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition - ReviewA meeting marked by fate

Yuri Lowell was part of the knights of Zaphias, the imperial capital of Terca Lumireis, a planet teeming with monsters that force the inhabitants to live in their cities protected by barriers made by using the Blastia. Due to a small accident in Zaphias, Yuri ends up in the dungeons of the imperial castle, but, thanks to the help of a mysterious man, he manages to escape. During the escape he meets Estellise, princess and heir to the throne of Zaphias, who is looking for Flynn, one of the bravest knights of Zaphias and a childhood friend of Yuri. From this meeting a series of events is triggered, which will lead this couple to meet new allies and see Terca Lumireis as they have never seen it before.

In a series of twists and betrayals, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition uses the concept of "Justice" as the pivot of its plot, seen from the eyes of those who have lost faith in what the latter represents, and from the eyes of those who try to draw the fine line between right and wrong and, in their own way, to change it.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition - Review
The Sign of Victory!

It will be a phrase that you will often hear during the countless battles that Yuri and his companions face during the events that take place in Terca Lumireis. Battles emphasized by an apparently simple combat system, in reality complex if you want to master the slightly veiled mechanics.

Following the historical Action-JRPG scheme of the series, in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition it is possible to create different combinations thanks to the Explosive Arts, in addition to the Basic and Arcane ones, and the possibility of further enhancing the Beyond Limits mode of each character. The growth of the latter is not only given by the simple Level Up system, but also by the skills that can be mastered as you use a certain weapon for a certain number of battles. In this way it is possible to create a "complete" character, with numerous abilities to be activated to adapt to different fighting styles or to face a particular boss. As you activate more abilities and coordinate them in the right order, you can activate a "Symbol" for each character. Symbols provide additional boosts during Over Limit mode. Using these systems in the best possible way you will always be able to check it during fast-paced and thrilling battles, which however should not be underestimated as regards the difficulty!

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition - ReviewFury Spark!

The new version of Tales of Vesperia does not stop only with some technical improvements, to be honest, not exceptional, starting from the resolution that sees a small improvement from 720p to 1080p (it is possible to reach 4K in the PC version, depending on the potential of the aforementioned). The fps on the other hand are stable at 60, with some rare drops in some particularly crowded environments.

Thankfully, what matters in a worthy JRPG is the content. And that's where the fun comes, with the arrival of Patty, who will be permanently available in the group, and the fearless knight Flynn, one of the most loved characters by fans, who in the native version only joined the party for very short clips. Furthermore, Several contents have been added both for the purposes of the storyline, both for sidequest and a new dungeon. All this has a positive effect on longevity, in itself not short at all, and almost interminable if you want to reach 100%.
