Atypical Guide to Metal Gear Solid V - Mission 30: Skull Face

    Skull Face is located at OKB Zero, an old disused Soviet base which is where the steel giant Sahelanthropus sleeps. The XOF leader wants to reveal it to the world for a plan he has been fond of for some time: to provide nuclear power to the highest bidders and create a climate of deterrence where he is the one who moves the threads of the fate of the world (but not only). pivotal mission of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which we will address in our own way, in the most complete way possible. In the last guide, Snake was finally able to cure his soldiers of the bacterium attacking the vocal cords with the help of Code Talker after the latest Skull attack at Nova Braga Airport.

    Stop the bleeding of the Diamond Dogs, and having discovered where Skull Face is, all that remains is to go to Afghanistan, destination OKB Zero, for the face and final face.

    Main objectives of the mission:

    • Get in touch with Skull Face;
    • Receive information from Skull Face.

    Secondary objectives of the mission:

    • Extraction of 4 Walker Gears;
    • Get the cassette at OKB Zero;
    • Extraction of 7 red containers from OKB Zero;
    • Extraction of 3 tanks from OKB Zero.

    The approach to the mission:

    Metal Gear Solid 30 mission 5, named precisely Skull Face, is among the longest and most delicate of Hideo Kojima's entire title. The former Soviet base is a real one fortress and its vastness means that it can be addressed in multiple ways. For convenience, OKB Zero can be mentally divided into 4 parts: the outside, the first, the second and the third area. Each will be marked with a comment from Miller, and the mission's goal will be to overcome all safety measures and arrive on time for the appointment at the OKB Zero heliport. It is vital to arrive prepared, perhaps with the favor of the night, and make a mind map of the area as it will be teeming with Walker Gears, snipers and an annoying chopper - just to anticipate a few threats. First of all, let's start as always with what to bring with us.

    The equipment:

    After several tests, this is the equipment that we considered the best to face mission 30: we start from the companion, who we have chosen to be Quiet, either for his ability to support by scanning the mission area, which proves to be fundamental, but also for his sniper skills which can be useful in case you are discovered - which is quite likely. In the worst case, Quiet will entertain enemy soldiers and allow Big Boss to continue or seek cover.

    As for the primary weapons, the choice fell on the grenade launcher Isando RGL-220, to be used as a last resort if you are surrounded by many soldiers, and a tranquilizer sniper rifle how can a Renov-ICKX TP specially modified from the menu (always remember the existence of the gunsmith who allows these modifications). The secondary weapon of choice is a lethal handgun like one Burkov with a silencer, to have the best of both worlds: in case you were forced to shoot the Burkov carries out its task and without emitting noise. The other secondary weapon is the rocket arm, which when piloted well can be of great help. The only weakness of this equipment is that it is in fact ineffective against the chopper: that will have to be avoided or exchanged the sniper rifle with a rocket launcher or a CGM-25 with the function of the helicopter, but only if necessary. An alternative to the tranquilizer rifle is a semi-automatic sniper rifle such as the Bambetov SV, as enemy soldiers are very likely to use riot helmets - which can be circumvented, however, by firing two shots in the leg.

    The rest is not important, except for a few smoke grenades and the night vision which can never be missing, especially if the mission is undertaken at night as recommended. Strictly stealth suit. The purpose of the mission is only to get to the OKB Zero heliport: there will be no fight at the end, so the equipment must be calculated only after passing mission 30 which "ends" in a certain sense with the arrival of Big Boss at the rendezvous. Here we are. Let's go, Pequod!

    The mission - The exterior:

    The helicopter will land us about 1 km from OKB Zero. The first thing to do is to send Quiet to do one reconnaissance of the area, to then set out in turn. The path leading to OKB Zero is completely devoid of guards, so you just need to walk and get to the cliff.

    At this point Quiet will have finished its reconnaissance and will remain stationary in a point of the fortress ready for a possible firefight. From the cliff the former Soviet base is about 780 m and the only way to get there is the one on the right. Once in the vicinity of the first gate (740m) the main dangers will be a walker gear, a sniper above the iron building, near the tent, and a soldier operating a lighthouse on the far left. The best way to approach this first test is to coast the right side of the road and strictly crawling, since the sniper would notice Big Boss otherwise, then climb over the stone wall and crawl through the grass.

    Once you have emerged to the right of this welcome committee you need to:

    1. Continue to crawl forward, in the direction of the marquee, and silently take down the first guard;
    2. Switch to the sniper and his buddy on the iron building, who will not notice if the other is silently eliminated;
    3. Wait for the walker gear to move away (let's avoid it);
    4. Crawl towards the soldier operating the lighthouse and neutralize him.

    Avoiding entering through the main gate is good and right: to avoid a frontal assault, a staircase carved into the rock to the right of the lighthouse of the newly neutralized guard comes to our aid:

    The mission - The first area:

    480 m to go, but we are only at the beginning. Once you go up the stairs and reach the heights of the fortress comes what is perhaps the most difficult part of mission 30. If it is night there will be three headlights on which can be considered dangerous. Here's what to do after a careful study of the area:

    1. Avoid the center of the area (the road) as it is patrolled by several walker gears;
    2. Always stay crouched and walk along the left, taking advantage of the rocky recesses, paying attention to the direction of the lights;
    3. Control any snipers by putting them to sleep (there is one on another iron construction, the goal is to head in that direction).

    Skirt the left crawling very carefully and going up the road to the left symbolized by an arranged wall leads to the second part with minimal bloodshed. At this point, OKB Zero Big Boss should be under the arches. Always crawling, we locate others stone stairs and climb up taking a look at the enemies on the right.

    The mission - The second area:

    Once we get on we will have an excellent panoramic point where we can decide what to do. We go down the stairs to the left with the aim of entering the building marked with the red door and pay attention to the movement of the camera. If we disable it somehow, the soldiers will alert - and some soldiers who move are problem soldiers. To avoid the camera just wait for it to move in the direction of the door, and position yourself directly under it. That's the blind spot of the camera. Once it has moved to the center (with the intention of looking to the left) it will be a good time to approach the door, break it in and enter the building. We also break through the exit and, paying attention to the soldiers on patrol, we go up the stairs in front of us and then turn left. We are very close.

    The mission - The third and final area:

    At this point in the mission the only hassle left will be a chopper more present, a sniper and a walker gear right in front of the entrance to the heliport. We continue only once the chopper has moved away, cross the small gallery and get rid of the sniper either by hunting him from behind or with a well-placed shot from a sniper rifle.

    You can get rid of the stationary walker gear directly from the sniper's position by throwing the rocket arm, or by sneaking up behind it and acting like an enemy caught from behind. Also neutralized the walker gear there is nothing more that separates us from the final settling of scores: the Skull Face helicopter has arrived. Let's go up the stairs and get comfortable, one is waiting for us long cut-scene.

    The alternative route:

    The mission can be tackled in different ways: the one we have proposed to you is the one that has proved to be the safest way, but it is also possible to approach the fortress in another way, from the right. In this case the enemies will be far away and there will be no need to crawl for a while. The route naturally ends in the second area, the "archaeological" one, on the side opposite the stone stairs. To take this path you must crawl into the main entrance and head as far right as possibleand, where makeshift walls with iron and cloth have been erected. Following these walls you will come to a checkpoint. Crawling on the ground and under the cover of darkness the guards shouldn't notice Big Boss.

    We go straight and we will arrive at the second area, where some of the gods are red containers and the point where the chopper pushes the most with its research. Always paying attention to its beam of light, it is possible to use the containers to overcome the building with the green doors (it has no exits) and use the next one with the red doors, completely avoiding the left side of OKB Zero, neutralize the guard just before of the tunnel and climb from the rise. In the case of this alternative route, also in the third area it will be necessary to keep to the right paying attention to the lighthouse and take the stairs to the right of the tank stationed there, take advantage of the buildings and shoot down the walker gear to guard the heliport or distract it by putting some other guard to sleep. .

    Bonus - The cassette:

    The OKB Zero cassette contains an instrumental version of Heavens Divide and is well hidden: we go up the stairs that lead to the heliport and proceed all the way, only to not go up the last stairs that lead to the landing place and take the others that go down. The cassette is located at the bottom of the elevator which will be the scene of a Skull Face monologue.

    Epilogue?

    In fact, once arrived at the fateful place, Skull Face will intercept Big Boss and invite him to follow him with a swarm of soldiers to act as an escort. The head of XOF, the ghost division and sweeper of FOX, will take Big Boss to the power plant, where Sahelanthropus is ready to be activated and this will be the perfect opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the character.

    Skull Face's characterization is intertwined with its past, which will be revealed to us: native of a small village in Hungary, a nation that ended up in the pro-Nazi coils first and then the pro-Communist ones during the Second World War, this same village was attacked by enemy soldiers and Skull Face, as a prisoner, tossed from side to side until his mother tongue is not overwritten. Losing his past and his identity, Skull Face cannot submit to the plan of his superior, Major Zero, to unify the world through a code that strictly controls information in English. To free the world from this lingua franca - parasite - and restore individual freedom, Skull Face developed an English strain of the vocal cord parasite together with Code Talker, whose story is similar, to eradicate English.

    Skull Face's goal is to create a new lingua franca made of atomic bombs, and this is where Sahelanthropus comes in, which like King Kong must be flaunted as a wonder of the world to create a crazy nuclear race.

    Once you get to the power plant, something will go wrong. Sahelanthropus will escape command of Skull Face since the grudge of Eli, saved in mission 23, resounds in little Tretij Rebenok, the floating boy who has always accompanied the Man on Fire. The young medium will then serve as a "conduit" to Eli to control Sahelanthropus. Skull Face fails to realize that his plan has gone up in smoke, but now there's a bigger problem: the awakened Metal Gear has enough enriched uranium to be an atomic bomb.
