Dragon Quest Heroes II - Review

Never change a winning team

In Dragon Quest Heroes II we will get to know cousins Laasar e Theresa, cadets of the Dunisia Military Academy. Accompanied by the Koro slime we have already known in Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree and the Roots of Evil, the young heroes will embark on an adventure that will lead us to unmask the mysterious schemes of a new dark enemy in an attempt to prevent the fulfillment of the prophecy of the moment, bringer of misfortune and herald of a new devastating war between the powers of the Seven Kingdoms.

On our journey Laasar and Theresa will forge powerful alliances and with more and less known faces borrowed directly from the Dragon Quest universe. Terry and Carver di Dragon Quest VI, Maribel and Rolf di Dragon Quest VII, the Twins Maya and Myra directly from Dragon Quest IV these are just some of the characters that aficionados of the saga will be able to take control of at any moment of the battle and who will join the unpublished faces of Desdemona, royal adviser to His Radiance and Cesar, childhood friend of the protagonist cousins and Prince of the kingdom of Dunisia.

A Slime is forever!

Prepare your weapons, strictly "white" as per tradition, for hordes of fierce enemies: each battle of the numerous Dragon Quest maps will be faced by a team of four characters made up of over ten available. At any time we can switch from one character to another taking control directly to maximize its characteristics depending on the enemies and the situations we will face. Each fighter will be associated with different combos, close or ranged special abilities and a peculiar Coupe de Gràce that will unleash once enough blows are suffered and inflicted on the battlefield.

Furthermore, Laasar and Theresa are exclusively given the opportunity to change their vocation, choosing from the five available. The ability to develop careers other than the Warrior's initial one adds a welcome touch of depth to gameplay. All the respective progress consecrated during your careers as Mage, Priest, Thief or Fighter will be kept in memory: at each change you will resume the path where you left off, retaining level, skills and actions acquired.

As happened in the previous chapter, the defeat of any enemy can result in the acquisition of the relative medal: the latter will allow us to summon the monster in question as an ally in battle, taking advantage of its special abilities. Dragon Quest Heroes II introduces the possibility to completely take the form of the most powerful monsters that will replace the active character for a short period of time by unleashing iron and fire on the battlefield. A timely and strategic use of medals can make the difference in the most difficult battles.
