LA Noire, Case 5 - "In the driver's seat"
Talk to the cop and the coroner, then examine the car (inside completely smeared with blood) and look in the trunk to find the purchase receipt for a pig. Then go to the front of the car to examine the evidence marked with the letter "A": it is a pair of glasses and a wallet. Carefully examine both objects (pay particular attention to the glasses, to be tilted at the right angle to be able to see the brand), then get up and cross the tracks to examine exhibit "B", probably the murder weapon. As with glasses, be careful to look at the object at the right angle, so that you can see the writing on it.
Now retrace your steps to question the witness, this Nate Wilkey. This time the statements among which to judge between truth and lie, in the same way as in the previous chapters, are four. The correct answers are:
- Statement 1: TRUE
- Statement 2: TRUE (the interrogated knew the victim)
- Statement 3: TRUE (he found the blood-stained tube)
- Statement 4: DOUBT (there is no certainty about the statements regarding the contents of the victim's wallet)
Once the interrogation is over, get back in the car and go to the victim's house. Once there, knock on the door, go inside and talk to the wife; then take a look around: on the dining room table, next to the flower pot, you can collect one of the 13 newspapers scattered around the game. Once you have viewed the video, go to the bedroom: here, examine the ticket in the wardrobe and the case of the glasses on the dresser, which turns out to be the same brand as the glasses found shortly before at the crime scene. Then examine the photo next to the glasses case: turn it around and remove the back of the frame to read the hidden message. Finally, for the final clue in this room, examine the cigarettes and matchbox on the coffee table.
Now move on to the kitchen, where you simply have to examine the receipt and the leaflet placed on the table (the leaflet must be turned and read also behind, to get all the clues). Just outside the kitchen, in the anteroom, use the telephone to call the control panel and get the address of the bar advertised on the matches found in the bedroom.
Go out the front door and go around the house to find the broken water heater. Here you will have to solve a simple puzzle: insert the four pipes that are on the ground (their shape and their color will make you understand immediately where they must be placed) to discover that one is missing, that is the pipe used to kill the victim. Go back inside the house to question Margaret Black. The answers to be given are the following:
- Statement 1: TRUE (the woman knows about the receipt of the pig)
- Statement 2: TRUE (Mrs. Black will tell the truth about her husband's glasses)
- Statement 3: TRUE (the woman will show that she knows where her husband should go)
- Statement 4: FALSE (the deleted message seen by examining the photo in the bedroom is proof of this)
- Statement 5: TRUE (you know this because you have examined the matchbox)
- Statement 6: TRUE (Ms has a true alibi)
At the victim's house you are done, the next stop is the Cavanagh bar, for which you got the address by calling the station earlier. Once there, talk to the bartender, who will tell you to go to the back to talk to Frank Morgan. This will begin another interrogation, this time of only two questions. Here are the correct answers:
- Statement 1: LIE (you have the receipt of the live pig as proof)
- Statement 2: DOUBT (Black's actual position at the time of death is unknown)
Arrest Morgan and choose her apartment in the notebook as the next destination. As you did in previous chapters, examine the mailbox at the entrance to find out the apartment number, then go investigate. At the door you will find Black, who will immediately flee: chase him running across the rooftops to the street, where your partner will block him by pointing the gun at him. Congratulations: case closed.
