The Borderlands saga has always been famous for its huge amount of secrets and quotes from games, movies and TV series. With Borderlands 3 Gearbox Software has seen fit to also mention Destiny, a well-known shooter / MMO from Bungie.
Wandering around the planets of Borderlands 3 it will in fact be possible to run into an enemy inspired by the design of the ghosts of Destiny. To be able to find it it is necessary to go to Promethea, continue in the Maliwan Modulars and finally reach the Skywell Station-27; however, reaching this zone does not guarantee 100% the spawn of the enemy which, being a rare opponent, will not always be present. In case of absence, simply return to the main menu and reload the last checkpoint, an operation to be repeated until the spectrum appears. By defeating it, you can get a legendary item similar to the engrams found in Destiny.
Once back in Sanctuary, Crazy Earl will gladly take the loot obtained by the specter, even if the reward may not fully satisfy the player: it is in fact a common weapon. This is a further reference to Destiny and its reward system related to engrams: often even the legendary ones were converted into worthless items.
Luckily Borderlands 3 is able to offer better loots, such as One Punch Man or Rick and Morty themed weapons.
