Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Gwyn, the Ember Lord

    After filling the receptacle with the souls of Seath, Nito, the Four Kings and the Cradle of Chaos, it's time to take on the latest boss of Dark Souls: Gwyn, the Lord of the Embers. No more chatter: cross the Furnace of the First Flame and get ready to bind the flame (or become the Dark Lord). In each of the two cases, you will have to deal with the fearsome enemy, but do not worry: we are here for you!

    Strategy and useful advice

    First of all, let's make a premise: it is extremely easy to get the better of the Lord of the Embers if you learn to parry his slashes and avoid his grip (use theRing of the Hornet if you have it, you will have an easier time) If you're not exactly talented with parry, we provide you with some alternative methodology. A relatively simple way to win this fight is to use the rocks present in the arena as a shield (some, in particular, seem almost used for this purpose): turn around the boss after he has attacked, in order to hit him safely, then go back behind your cover.

    Another methodology consists in making him lose his balance, because Gwyn doesn't have much: use a heavy weapon (pyromancy "Iron Skin"And the 'Havel's armor to resist the blows) and fill him with a barrel (being careful of the grip, which will cause you massive damage), until he loses his balance for a few seconds, which will give you the possibility to inflict a lot of damage on him while being relatively safe.

    A third method to defeat the final boss is to use the spell "Crystallized seeking souls”(Combined with equipment that increases magic damage), dodge his blows and cast the spell (which is very quick and chases the target). Given his sensitivity to magic, it shouldn't be long before you see the boss collapse. There are other methodologies, including that of dodging his blows and trying to get around him to cause him damage, but still it would need some decent reflexes on your part. Either way, don't be scared, because Gwyn isn't as strong as she looks.

    Attacks:

    • Quadruple Combo: the boss will perform a very fast combo with his broadsword, to be avoided absolutely (otherwise he will break your guard and probably kill you);
    • Lunge: If you are at a medium distance from Gwyn, he will execute this attack, break your guard and cause you a large amount of fire damage; this attack must also be avoided by rolling sideways;
    • Hold: if the boss breaks your guard or when you are extremely close to him, he will use the hold; avoid this too, otherwise you will find yourself with very little life (if not dead dead, mind you!);
    • Air Strike: Gwyn will use this attack at the start of the battle and later if you stray too far from him; you will see him take a leap and try to hit you with a slash of his broadsword; it is not easy to avoid as it is very fast, so try not to go too far, in order to avoid the possibility of it running;

    Drop:

    • Soul of Gwyn, Lord of the Embers (combined with a sword, greatsword, or huge greatsword +10 gives rise to Sword of the Great Lord, while given to the altar of the sun, after 10 medallions, it will give you the miracle "Lance of the sun")
    • 70.000 anime
    • Great Lord's armor (available from Domnhall by Zena starting with the New Game +)

    Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Gwyn, the Ember Lord

    On Lord Gwyn, the so-called "Lord of the Embers", there would be things to say. The first real ruler that the human race has known, the one who personally decided to challenge the dragons and thus bind the flame for the first time, is one of the most iconic characters of the entire saga. He was responsible for the creation of the glorious Anor Londo, but also for that feeling of abandonment that human beings have known.

    In truth, Lord Gwyn, at least initially, had tried to clash with the advance of the Abyss and the darkness, sending his trusty Artorias to appease the wrath of Manus, but without succeeding. As time went by, Gwyn himself was hit by the curse himself trying, with a last desperate gesture, to sacrifice himself and his trusty knights to the Furnace of the First Flame, but without being able to stem its power. The explosion generated by this gesture ended up burning both the man and the armor of his trusty guardians (thus becoming the Black Knights) and, probably, his last glimmer of lucidity. Facing it in the flaming arena, realizing that you are fighting a mere empty shell, is one of the saddest but at the same time memorable realities of the whole adventure. Praise the sun, however.
