The January marathon of AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick), an event that brings together some of the best speedrunners from around the world to collect donations for charity: this year the total amount of money raised by spectators' donations has reached 2,7 million dollars, a sum that will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, an association dedicated to the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer.
Games Done Quick has been for years a reference event in the videogame world, through a Twitch channel able to focus the attention of all fans. In addition to various "short" streams throughout the year, main events are two marathons that are held throughout the year: Summer Games Done Quick (in summer) e Awesome Games Done Quick (in January); these marathons are characterized by 7 days of non-stop speedrun, involving titles of all kinds. During the marathon, it is possible to donate to have the opportunity to obtain particular prizes or vote for particular conditions for the following gameplay, together with the possibility of "unlocking" additional streams during the event upon reaching certain thresholds.
During the gameplay other speedrunners are also called into question for each specific game, which illustrate particular background during the course related to the work itself and to the world of speedruns, explaining the operation of all the techniques used to reach the conclusion in the shortest possible time.
Starting from a small room with some chairs in 2010, in recent years the media growth of Games Done Quick has moved the event into a large room, with a large audience present live. Obviously, starting from last year's SGDQ, the event has moved totally online: a change that has not discouraged the spectators and the incredible results in terms of donations, which make it clear how the community of fans is not only the protagonist of feuds for their own sake, but capable of achieving increasingly incredible results.
