Dark Souls II - Boss Guide: Royal Rat Authority

Once upon a time there was a rat who struck a deal with a human: rats would rule the underground, while humans would be entitled to everything that was illuminated by the sun's rays. The human race, however, did not keep their promise, and driven by desire began to hunt rats in their kingdom. For this reason the King of all rats, embittered by this behavior, declared war on the human race and placed two champions in defense of the kingdom underground: one of these is theRoyal Rat Authority. Defeating him will allow us a 'audience with the King: let's see how to do it.

Dark Souls II - Boss Guide: Royal Rat Authority

The Royal Rat Authority is a different kettle of fish than thevanguard in the Tomb of the Saints. Optional creature located at Gates of Pharros, can result between tougher bosses by Dark Souls II. The reason? The minions that accompany him.

As you can guess from the name, the Gates of Pharros are the place where there is the highest concentration of the contraptions of the same name, and vast caves where the Gyrm civilization of which Gavlan belongs resides. Among the dozens and dozens of Pharros mouths, some will be traps for PvP, while others will hide secrets, including the Lance of Santier that will have to be broken to use its full potential. Once broken, in fact, the spear will acquire not only an infinite durability but also one of the most varied movesets of the entire game. The weapon is located just after the Gyrm Refuge bonfire, behind a door that unlocks with 3 Pharros stones.

The uniqueness of the area, focused on PvP and the Rat King pact, makes the Royal Rat Authority a boss can only be faced in single mode: Neither co-op nor summon NPC helpers is possible. In this case the best friend available responds to the name of magic, pyromancy or bow. As anticipated, the real difficulty of the boss lies in the fact that once you enter the arena you will be attacked by his minions, four infected rats that inflict toxicity. You have a few seconds to take out the rats before the Royal Rat Authority comes down from the rise where it was sleeping and it becomes a very confusing and difficult fight. Toxicity is a status with the same effects as poison, but more powerful and faster. There is no tool to cure toxicity - poisonous moss is useless here, which is why this boss is so feared. If it can console, the Royal Rat Authority inflicts neither poison nor toxicity.

After the fog, therefore, the top priority is to get rid of the rats before the boss takes the field, with bow, miracles like Lightning Spear, pyromancy (towards which they are weak, like Persistent Flame) or simply with a strong and upgraded weapon capable of killing minions in a few hits. The toxic rats will move once one of them is attacked and the boss will automatically wake up. One of the simplest tactics is to use Persistent Flame pyromancy as soon as the fog is cleared, taunt a rat with an arrow and see them run to their deaths. The Royal Rat Authority will jump upon arriving in the arena, and the real boss-fight can begin. He looks like a grown mouse-dog and behaves quite similar to Sif, the gray wolf from Dark Souls, obviously without the aid of the sword. One of its weaknesses is fire.

    Attacks:

    • Paws: most common attack, the boss gives two front paws, first with the right and then with the left. It is avoided with one or two forward rolls, in order to position yourself under / behind him and hit him in the hind legs.
    • Charge: it's his most dangerous attack, he lowers his head and launches himself within 2 seconds against the player. You dodge respecting the times with a side dodge, for example to the right.
    • Stomp: attack very simple to avoid, consists of a ram with the left paw quite listless useful to roll and once again move under or behind him.
    • Acid: Rare attack that occurs when the Royal Rat Authority reaches 20% health. The boss stops and vomits acid that can damage equipment. It's a great time to get away and attack with magic or a bow. After making this attack, the Royal Rat Authority will be visually slower and more tired, even capable of limping like Sif if further weakened.

Once the Royal Rat Authority is downed, the audience with the Rat King will be welcomed.

    Drop:

    • Soul of the Royal Rat Authority (creation, from Straid: Acid Wave)
    • 14.000 anime
    • Rat Tail x1

    Lore:

Like the Vanguard, the Royal Rat Authority is another champion of the Rat King positioned at the Gates of Pharros and a loyal servant about whom little is known, whose job is to test the courage of those who seek an encounter with his majesty. the Rat King.

The King will once again find himself after his champion's arena, inside a cove. We mentioned in the last guide how he repudiated mankind but how you somehow respect the Curse Bearer for having passed the test, thus allowing him to be part of the pact.

THEanello which proves membership in the covenant was forged by a human who was once among the king's subjects about whom there is no further details. The Rat King is very reticent, which is why one can only speculate about who this past friend is of whom, perhaps, we are only a sweet memory. The name most associated with this intriguing character is Pharros. It is likely that on his pilgrimage Pharros settled for a period in the caves that today even bear his name and that he met the Rat King, then filling both areas of his kingdom with gadgets and traps, sealing his loyalty with a ring.

The figure of Pharros is shrouded in mystery, but it is not difficult to imagine how an inventor of his caliber traveled continuously because he did not like to stop in one place, and how he did not like the company of other men. In search of something, Pharros would continue his journey into the depths until he reached the Black Gorge where he would become one with the Putrid, not before having carved his name in the history of Drangleic.

The Rat King will never confirm the identity of the human being, but once he has achieved maximum confidence with the new chosen one he will let himself go to a comment of hope, hoping that perhaps one day men and mice will be able to make peace and that nothing is lost. forever.
