DiRT Rally 2.0 - Guide to the co-driver's advice

DiRT Rally 2.0 is one of the titles free of the program PlayStation Plus Of this month. Among dirt roads, hairpin bends and mud you can relive the emotions of a real rally driver and, just as the formula wants, we will be able to count on all the tools of a true rally ace.

One of the fundamental aspects to be successful on the tracks and which is often overlooked is the co-driver, or navigator. The second driver gives us very important information, often regarding the extent of the curves or bumps, in order to measure the brake and accelerator.

His words may seem gibberish or incomprehensible to us at first, but once you get the message, they will be of great help. Below we give you a brief explanation for each of the “cryptic” messages you will often hear in DiRT Rally 2.0.

    • 2 or 3 digit numbers: symbolize distance and vary according to the measurement system adopted. The Imperial system measures distance in yards (0,9 meters, roughly), so a “30” means 30 yards away from the next obstacle.
    • Right / left 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6: a number between 1 and 6 indicates how curved the next hairpin is. 1 indicates a very narrow one while 6 indicates a wide curve. The direction obviously indicates which side the curve bends.
    • Hairpin: very narrow or U-shaped curve
    • Long / Short: it has to do with the instruction dictated before. Indicates whether for example a curve is long or not.
    • Close / Open: indicate the width of the road.
    • Tablet: indicates to accelerate.
    • Dosso: the hump can make it difficult to see how the track branches off in front of us. When you hear "Over Bump" there will be a bump with a curve. The co-pilot will also often tell you which side to stand on in order to overcome the obstacle in the best possible way.
    • Jump: bump to overcome by accelerating.
    • Please note:: call indicating dangerous obstacles on the track, such as boulders.
    • Acqua: puddle on the road.
    • Cut / Don't cut: indicates when to cut curves or not.
    • Perhaps: on the perhaps you will be able to decide how to act on the call. A "maybe jump" indicates that you will have the option of choosing whether to jump or not, taking into account the thing according to need (better not to jump if the car is damaged, for example).
    • Within: Word used to concatenate instructions. For example a “6 right inside left hairpin” indicates a wide curve bent to the right with a left hairpin inside it.

Regarding the unit of measurement to be applied, it will also be possible to enter the metric system in order to adjust as you prefer. Furthermore, in DiRT RALLY 2.0 each call from the co-pilot will be accompanied on the screen by a symbol that should help to understand the instruction.
