Fortnite Playground Guide: What it is and how long it lasts

Fortnite meets Minecraft in the new playground for the Battle Royale mode.

Fortnite's new limited-time mode is now available, eliminating the competitive aspects of Battle Royale and allowing players to team up, create and build structures in a relatively safe area.

The Playground is essentially an open sandbox mode which increases the number of resources and allows for much more time for players to roam around the island, without any risk of death. Being a limited-time mode, Epic Games said they should expect changes for its return in the coming months with new ideas based on community and player feedback.

The current version of the Playground will end on 12 July.

Number of players and time limits

The first thing you need to know is that this mode only supports four players. So basically, a team. There is no danger of other players invading your island and destroying whatever you are building. On the other hand, while there is no danger from strangers, friendly fire is activated for so you can shoot your friends. Don't worry though, players will be able to regenerate immediately.

The other major restriction is that you are limited to playing for 1 hour. After 55 minutes the circle of the fatal storm will begin to close, and it will take 5 minutes to do so. If you're building a massive structure, you might want to grab a copy before it's destroyed forever. One last thing: when a player is killed by the storm they will not regenerate.Fortnite Playground Guide: What it is and how long it lasts

    Weapons and resources

The Playground is very generous with resources. There will be 100 loot llamas on each island Ammo, boxes and boxes will generate 100% ammo, and collecting wood, metal and bricks will give 10 times the normal amount. The intention is to give us and our team complete freedom to be creative and build massive structures, whether as a practice for Battle Royale games or just to see how far we can go.

In the Playground all challenges are disabled so it is not possible to overcome any of the weekly challenges such as following a treasure map, searching for the island or destroying kills in a certain location.
