Mass Effect Legendary Edition: why doesn't it arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Although Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, BioWare has no plans for the title's official launch on next-generation consoles, nor for an upgrade. In an interview with IGN, director Mac Walters said the launch on the next generation would be too long a leap to take.

In my opinion, if I bought a title for the latest generation of consoles, I would expect a lot. This "much" in my opinion would be beyond what we were able to do with Unreal Engine 3. So I think it was a right choice, ours. Better push hard with the next Mass Effect.

Walters denied rumors that BioWare is considering a patch to improve the title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, although players who favor these consoles will still benefit from some improvements.

Wait and see. Surely the next-gen consoles will have shorter loading times, thanks to the SSD. The framerate and resolution will also benefit. It will certainly be an optimized experience but nothing more.

The title will be released on May 14 and will include the first three chapters of the saga, including all DLCs. Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be officially released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC but will also be compatible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
