    Octopath Traveler: a mobile prequel coming soon

    Earlier this week Square Enix announced that it would soon reveal the release date of Traveler Octopath: Champions of the Continent. Through a brand new trailer, not only are we offered the gameplay footage of the prequel, but we also learn that the mobile title will be released on 28 October:

    The JRPG for iOS and Android managed to surpass 500.000 registered accounts and to celebrate, a new video was released earlier this week showing the background music theme of “The Playwright" Arguste (one of the antagonists). Yasunori nishiki, who worked on the original game's OST, also runs the OST for Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.



    Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent was first announced in March 2019. At the time, Square Enix was the development studio Octopath Acquire have declared that this is the game to play while waiting for a new chapter of Octopath for consoles, which is also in development. They pointed out that it is a true "single player RPG" - despite being on a mobile device - with an actual ending and that it takes about 60 hours to complete. Also, the game's story unfolds before the events of the first Octopath Traveler.

    Initially planned for the end of the 2019, Champions of the Continent was subsequently postponed to 2020. Although the game was only announced in Japan, Square Enix also teased one English version.


    with over 2 million copies shipped worldwide on Steam and Nintendo Switch, Octopath Traveler is by far the greatest success of the development studio Acquire, who is used to much more niche games. Like recent Japanese versions of Wizardry, or Jinrui no Minasama e, a yuri adventure game developed for Nippon Ichi Software in 2019. The studio is also working on Gladiux, an action game about gladiators coming to PC.
