Red Dead Redemption - Complete Walkthrough - Mission Guide

Red Dead Redemption - Complete Walkthrough - Mission Guide

Here is the walkthrough of all Red Dead Redemption missions.

    Act I

    New Austin

    John Marston

    "Exodus to America"

    Mission required: None
    Solution:
As soon as John gets off the train it will be possible to check him. Head to the saloon highlighted on the map by a yellow X and follow Jake to Fort Mercer; hold X to keep up with him.

    "New friends, old problems"

    Requested mission: "Exodus to America"
    Solution:
Follow Bonnie to the vicinity of the Ranch and, once you reach the camp, kill the rabbits and coyotes in the chicken coop.

    Bonnie MacFarlane

    "Obstacles in our way"

Quest required: "New friends, old problems"
    Solution:
To complete this mission it will not be necessary to win the race but it will be enough to complete the path indicated by the smoke produced by the fires lit along the way. Remember not to stress the horse too much and be careful not to fall: if this happens, it will no longer be possible to win.

    "This is Armadillo, USA"

Mission required: "Obstacles in our way"
    Solution:

Get on the gig and set off towards Armadillo. Once you reach your destination, carry out the errands assigned by Bonnie and you will have completed the mission; from this moment you can use the gig for travel.

    "Wives and oxen"

Mission required: "This is Armadillo, USA"
    Solution:

Go to Bonnie's house and talk to her. Once the conversation is over, you will have to take care of herding the cattle, which will be a little problematic before you get carried away. The secret is to consider the herd as a single mass: position yourself behind it and advance in the desired direction at a pace neither too fast nor too slow, also pay attention to the animals left behind and those that get lost that will have to be brought back to the herd. The places where you will have to lead the cattle are the fence, pasture and an old oak tree. While this mission will take some time, you don't have to worry about being attacked by thugs or beasts.

    "Wild horses, tamed passions"

    Mission required: "Wives and oxen"
    Solution:

Go to MacFarlane Ranch and talk to Bonnie who will give you the lasso. After meeting their father, get on your horse and follow them to go and catch some wild horses. Hold L2 to aim and R2 to throw the lasso: after you capture the horse, hold L2 until both Bonnie and her father have done the same. At this point you will have to try to maintain balance with the left analog stick. Once the horse is tamed, Bonnie's father will abandon you and you will have to repeat the operation to give Bonnie one too. At this point, return to the Ranch to find that you will have to herd a herd of wild horses at the canyon. The method for leading the herd of horses is the same as in the previous mission. Once in the canyon, you will need to capture a stallion and then return to Bonnie.

    "A storm coming"

Mission required: "Wild horses, tamed passions"
    Solution:

Meet Bonnie at the corral and then direct the herd to the indicated spot where the cattle will be struck by lightning and scare away towards a cliff. Try to block the run of the cows by galloping between them and in front of them: when they have calmed down, they will return to Bonnie. Once all the cattle are gathered, take them back to the MacFarlane Ranch.

    "Embers of hell"

Required missions: "A storm is coming" - "Save the blows, spoil the bandit"
    Solution:

Talk to Bonnie at the blacksmith, and then follow her out of the ranch to find her father. She will see someone soon enough and she will dive into the woods. Follow her after her to find her father, and the site of the massacre. He will send you back to the ranch. As soon as you arrive at the MacFarlane ranch you will see black smoke coming from the ground: the barn is on fire. You will have to climb up the stable through the side scaffolding. Red Dead Redemption is not a platform game, so the controls will be slightly difficult. You will need to stand on the edge of the platform to hang onto the next one above you. Reach the roof of the barn: go to the back and enter. Jump to the ground and open the barn door. Then hit two horses to get them out: you'll have to ride the last horse to get them out. Build up some speed to jump over the rubble. Once you are out of the stable, lead the horse to his stall.

    Marshall Leigh Johnson

    "Political realities in Armadillo"

Mission required: "Obstacles in our way"
    Solution:

Follow Johnson into the saloon at the other end of Armadillo. After Walton is out, call your horse and follow the sheriff in pursuit. Walton will go to his hideout. Climb the hill and take out all the bandits in your path. At the end of the mission you will meet Walton and you can choose to kill him or shoot him in the legs to capture him and get a prize.

    "Justice in Pike's Basin"

Mission required: "Political realities in Armadillo"
    Solution:

Talk to Marshall Johnson outside his office, then follow him north to Pike's Basin. On the way you will have to fight, then you can take the fork to the right or left, but it changes little between the two paths. Follow the path by shooting all the bandits you meet (beware of any snipers on the other side of the basin) and reach the other group. Go to the center of the hollow where the hostages are being held captive. Once all the bandits are dead, go to the hostages to free them.

"Save the shots, spoil the bandit"

Required missions: "Wives and oxen" - "The old crook's blues"
    Solution:

Talk to Marshall Johnson in Armadillo. Follow him to Ridgewood Farm and take out the Outlaws. Examine the rest along the way. When you get to Ridgerwood, scan the two areas on the map for survivors, then return to Johnson. Look over the barn and watch the cutscene. Then you will be attacked by some bandits who come from the ranch house. Kill them and then go into the house and take them all out. They are very easy to kill, except the last one.

The last bandit is behind a locked door with a hostage. Marshall Johnson will do nothing; you can try to attack directly, but if you use Dead Eye there is a good chance that the bandit will be able to kill the hostage before you shoot. Find a window in the side rooms, destroy it and go up to the roof. Go around and shoot the bandit in the head to rescue the hostage, then head down to the shed you searched for earlier to see a cutscene.

Now is the time to kill the last of the bandits. Follow Marshall south until you see a cutscene, then position yourself behind some object at the station and take out the bandits who will attack you. These will come in waves, but they will have to descend along the path of the cliff, which makes them vulnerable. At this point you should be able to take them out one by one without difficulty.

    "The hanging of Bonnie MacFarlane"

    Mission required: "Embers of Hell"
    Solution:

Talk to Marshall Johnson and Bonnie's father in the sheriff's office, then follow Johnson to Tumbleweed. When you are there, you will need to escort Norman Deek to the city entrance. A bit like catching cattle: slam into him until he moves forward. Of course it's all a trap. Take cover and kill as many bandits as you can, as fast as possible. Eventually there will be a scene where Bonnie is captured, you need to get to her as soon as possible.

There aren't many bandits in town so it's best to equip yourself with a gun and run. When you get close to the gallows a cutscene will start where you save Bonnie (so don't try to take down the noose). Once the bandits in town are finished, disband Bonnie to complete the mission.

    Nigel Dickens

    "The old crook's blues"

Quest required: "Justice in Pike's Basin"
    Solution:

You will see where Nigel is on the map with a large "W". Find him and talk to him, then ride his wagon to take him to the doctor in Armadillo. There will be only one attack by the bandits, very easy to quell, then just stay on the road and not tire the horses too much.

"You will not give false testimony, except for profit"

Required missions: "Wives and oxen" - "The old crook's blues"
    Solution:

You will have to wait a while after dropping Nigel at the doctor before receiving his second mission. When you can go back to the doctor and get Nigel, take him to the Ridgewood Farm. He will kick you out before you get there, and you have to walk the rest of the way. When you arrive, blend in with the crowd and approach Nigel to watch a cutscene. When prompted, shoot the skull on the porch of the house. Next you have to shoot a hat thrown in the air: use the Dead Eye.

After completing these tests, one of the brutes of the club will challenge you: defeat him. Then grab his shotgun, then use the Dead Eye to take it out of his hand and complete the mission.

"Liars, cheaters and other proud Americans"

Requested mission: "Exhumation and other nice hobbies"
    Solution:
Another racing mission, but this one much easier than the first. Climb into the passenger compartment of Nigel's wagon who will accompany you to the race venue, then get on your wagon. Run between the checkpoints as fast as possible and stay on the road. The other drivers are quite slow, so you should be able to win with a large advantage. After the race, get on Nigel's wagon.

"A scammer loses his hair, but not his vice"

Mission Request: "Liars, Cheaters, and Other Proud Americans"
    Solution:

You will find Nigel in the southern part of New Austin. Watch the cutscene and then climb into Nigel's carriage to escape an attack. Use a shotgun, if you have the ammo, to take out the pursuers. Eventually you will reach a road block, but there will be some barrels of dynamite nearby - use them to destroy the block. Kill all the enemies that shoot at you, eventually you will reach a small cave and complete the mission.

"The sport of kings ... and liars"

Mission required: "A scammer loses his fur, but not his vice"
    Solution:

Another race! Get on the horse and follow Nigel on the race ground. Watch a cutscene at the start line, then it's time to run. Stay on the road, aim for the fire points and keep your horse at the fastest speed possible.

    Seth Briars

    "Exhuming and other noble hobbies"

Mission required: "Wild horses, tamed passions" - "You will not give false testimony, except for profit"
    Solution:

Talk to Seth at Coot's Chapel Cemetery. Then follow it to Benedict Point. You will have to distract the two guards. The game will tell you to steal a horse to earn a $ 40 bounty but instead, just walk up to the door of the booth, and the guard will point you without any provocation. Whatever you did, run out of the area and lose your wanted level. Go back to Benedict Point and talk to Seth again.

Moses will escape, so shoot him in the legs, catch him with the lasso and tie him up. Take him to Seth to see a short cutscene. Then you will get an apology letter: take it to the office where the telegraph is to get rid of your bounty, but it would be better to pay in cash and keep the letter.

    "A nice ride with friends"

Requested mission: "Exhumation and other nice hobbies"
    Solution:

Meet with Seth and drive his chariot to Tumbleweed. You will be attacked by some treasure hunters along the way - kill them. They will be very fast and close, so a gun will work miles compared to a shotgun. Cross the bridge and reach the Tubmleweed gates to complete the mission.

"Let the dead bury the dead"

Mission required: "A nice ride with friends"
    Solution:

Talk to Seth outside the gates of Tumbleweed. Kill all the bandits and advance into the city, keeping Seth alive. Reach the house on the other side of the city. You will have to go around the left side of the house and enter the cellar, go up to the third floor killing anyone who comes in front of it. Examine the treasure chest in the second floor room to complete the mission.

    Irish

"A Frenchman, a Welshman and an Irishman"

Mission Request: "Liars, Cheaters, and Other Proud Americans"
    Solution:

You will find Irish in an Armadillo stable. After watching the cutscene, get on the horse and follow Irish to the lakeshore, after which he will leave you alone on your bloody but simple mission. Kill all the bandits and reach the hut. Be careful because there is a bandit inside, he will come out as soon as you are very close to the door, armed. After killing him, examine the hut.

    "Man was born to suffer"

Quest required: "A French, a Welsh and an Irishman"
    Solution:
Talk to Irish at Benedict Point, then get on your horse and follow him down to the mine at Gaptooth Breach. Stay close to Irish and then kill everyone around the mine. Follow the marker on the map in the mine cart, taking out all the enemies using the shotgun. Look for the Gatling gun, being careful of any dynamite charges, shoot from a certain distance to avoid damage. Continue until you reach a small fence to use as a defense against the miners who will attack you. Go to the mine cart marked on the map to see a cutscene.

Go back and use the mine cart to go up from the mine and exit. Watch out for the explosives along the way and keep the rifle ready in hand. When you reach the next objective, Marston will take the Gatling gun inside Irish's tank and the mission will end.

    "In Shaky's Territory"

Mission required: "Man was born to suffer"
    Solution:

Meet Irish at the saloon in Thieves Landing. Follow Irish to the shipping yard where you will meet Shaky. The front door is locked, so you'll have to find another way. Climb the ladder up to the roof of the structure, and enter through a window on the opposite side. There are bandits inside, so kill them. Shaky is being held hostage by three bandits, so use Dead Eye to take them out.

Now you have to fight in the warehouse courtyard. Look at the cash desks of TNT and take them into account in case of need. Open the big gate and reach the ammo crate, taking out all the enemies when you go. After grabbing the crate, board Irish's wagon to reach MacFarlane Ranch. You will be attacked along the way, so keep your eyes peeled.

    Fort Mercer

    "The assault on Fort Mercer"

Required missions: "The hanging of Bonnie MacFarlane" - "The sport of kings ... and liars" - "Let the dead bury the dead" - "In Shaky's territory"
    Solution:

Meet Marshall Johnson, Irish and Nigel outside Fort Mercer. Climb into the back of the carriage and wait. When inside the fort, take out the bandits with the Gatling. You will soon be attacked by other bandits, take out these too. Take a look at the door where the enemies are coming from. After all the bandits are dead, Marshall will come to your aid. You will have to walk into the fort. After taking out all the bandits, talk to the sheriff and watch the cutscene.

The new bandit group is easy to kill with the Gatling. You will have to face several waves. When everyone is dead, a cutscene will play and the mission will end.

"We will be together in heaven"

Mission Request: "The Assault on Fort Mercer"
    Solution:

Meet Irish and Nigel near the ferry to make the journey to Mexico. Near the Mexican coast you will be attacked by some Mexican bandits. Take them out, but beware: some of them will throw dynamite at you. Kill the dynamite throwers before they reach a dangerous position for you. Eventually you will dock at Southern Bank. Other bandits will attack you: kill them all and join the two tied horses to finish the mission.
