Atypical Guide to Metal Gear Solid V - Mission 29: Metallic Archaea

After a summer break from the battlefield it's time to resume the guides on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which go to touch in missions as complete as possible more important than the last title (in chronological order) of the saga created by Hideo Kojima. We are in the final stages of the first part of the game: in the last guide (Code Talker) we had saved the namesake Navajo from the captivity of Skull Face, for which he worked as a biologist, and unceremoniously agreed to cure Big Boss's men, who are dying of a bacterium that Code Talker himself has perfected.

Once in flight the duo of Big Boss and Code Talker found themselves in the middle of a brown cloud. "Metallic archaea”Sighs Code Talker, genetically engineered to corrode the helicopter and make it crash. Enjoy the reading!

    The helicopter is inoperable.

Main objectives of mission 29 of Metal Gear Solid V, Archaea Metallici:

    • Eliminate the Skulls

Metal Gear Solid V mission 29 secondary objectives:

    • Code Talker extraction
    • Complete the mission without being caught by the puppet soldiers
    • Extraction of the Skulls

    The approach to the mission:

The number 29 of Metal Gear Solid V, Archaea Metallics, it is an “atypical” mission compared to those faced previously as it is offensive oriented. Stealth is of little use, in fact, against four Skulls who form the welcome committee once they are rushed into Nova Braga airport. On this mission we will be called to eliminate the Skulls one last time, only on this occasion they have an ace up their sleeve: a stone-like armor that gives them a "second life", that is to say that their protection will have to be broken before starting to harm them.

    The Skulls 2.0.

The arena in which the one-on-four combat takes place is vast and is the entire Nova Braga airport, in Central Africa. The most important areas to take into consideration are the internal ones, where the Skulls cannot enter, to take a breath or reload. Let's now see theequipment that, after several tests, turned out to be the best to face Archaea Metallici.

The ideal equipment for Metal Gear Solid V mission 29:

Although everything suggests the opposite, it is possible to prepare as if nothing had happened before facing the mission. Archaea Metallici will be put on standby with a cinematic to be continued in order to allow you to select the best paraphernalia for this delicate clash.

First of all, let's tackle the age-old question of companion that Big Boss could take with him: not being a stealth mission, D-Dog is out of the equation (it would only hurt) and the D-Walker, apart from knowing how to use it, is completely open to enemy fire. Its durability is soon compromised, which is why it is once again the ideal companion Quiet, who being a sniper enjoys a privileged position from which to hit the Skulls. The The best sniper rifle he can handle is the Sinful Butterfly, practically a modified version ad hoc for the Brennan woman. It is the rifle with the highest perforation, capable of worrying even the tanks. The Brennan's project is found in mission 28 in the villa where Code Talker is held prisoner (once again, we refer you to the complete guide). Requiring a level 38 R&D team, however, it is difficult to have it in time for Archaea Metallici: in this case the classic Wicked Butterfly is just fine, offering a nuisance and passive help activity.

    The recommended equipment.

Our protagonist's equipment is far more important: having to fight armed to the teeth, the most logical suit is the Battle armor, which guarantees greater protection. The primary weapons that were most effective for the fight are the Isando Rgl-200 grenade launcher and a machine gun with a high rate of fire such as the Alm 48, while the choice on the secondary weapon fell on the Uragan-5. Finally, while their usefulness is relative, you can carry grenades and smoke grenades with you to (briefly) lose track of yourself. Let's go, Pequod!

Metal Gear Solid V mission 29: Metallic Archaea

The helicopter will land in the center of Nova Braga airport. Big Boss and the tough Code Talker were miraculously saved. The helicopter has been completely corroded by the metallic Archaea cloud, but there is little time to regain strength: the Skulls have already arrived and are stronger than ever.

    One against all.

These are not like the Skulls faced several times during Metal Gear Solid V, plus they are not alone in this round: the four Skulls, empowered by an armor that (re) arises spontaneously on their bodies, have brought with them zombies that slowly surround Big Boss and the old parasitologist. Don't worry about the soldiers, are a distraction that cannot be afforded. Avoid them totally, and don't worry about Code Talker sitting in front of the helicopter rubble. Nothing will happen to him even if you are hundreds of meters away.

As soon as the cut scene ends, the advice is to run forward without ever stopping until you reach the square with the white containers that gives a building open from three sides. The small warehouse provides constant protection, three escape routes, and a method of scattering the four Skulls, not allowing them to focus their attacks.

    The warehouse in question (left).

Similarly to mission 16 (the Traitors' Party), which we recommend you read for a further study against the Skulls, these in the African airport have the same moves as their companions, the only difference is their greater resistance: as mentioned, in fact, they are equipped with a second life bar that works as a "shield". This is where the submachine gun, which we must consider our weapon of choice: the large ammunition capacity (especially if improved) and the speed with which the bullets are fired lead on the one hand to constant damage that resets the shield in a matter of seconds (with continuous fire), on the other hand a more delayed reload in time. An assault rifle would instead force us to reload very frequently and frustrate many of the efforts made, while the Uragan-5 and the Isando grenade launcher are side weapons to be used when needed.

Using the warehouse as cover and shooting when appropriate, returning to reload, is therefore a more than valid strategy to take out the Skulls one after the other. The only things you need to worry about are two: one, that if it is true that the Skulls cannot enter the warehouse or any other building at the airport, they can always resort to one of their deadliest attacks, namely to cause spikes to pop up everywhere under the ground which explode within a few seconds; two, Skulls may sometimes resort to melee attacks with their machete. This is telegraphed by a sound effect and can happen in two ways: with and without jump. In both cases it will be necessary to learn how to master the reaction key which will appear briefly on the screen: learning to twist against the machete makes the Skulls of the little lambs, seeing is believing.

Train, it's one of the best satisfactions of the game.

How to avoid spikes (and the explosion) is easy to say: as soon as they arrive, and once again with their typical premonitory sound, we advise you to run and throw yourself to the ground to take a decisive shot. Once the protective bar has been emptied, the Skulls will return to normal and above all vulnerable: with a submachine gun like the Alm 48 you should have no problem emptying the life bar in a few seconds, but if this does not happen and you are forced to strategic retreat, go back to the warehouse. After a while their shield will recreate and will have to be emptied again to return to affect life (this does not regenerate, fortunately).

In addition, an anti-aircraft machine gun should also be found nearby, certainly more powerful than a simple rifle; it is not recommended to use it as it is very slow and repositioning would mean opening your arms to a machete blow. There are a myriad of ways to approach this mission but if you allow us to hold your hand the way to victory is paved in three main points:

    • Use the warehouse as a control point.
    • A submachine gun (like the Alm 48) is your best friend.
    • Learning to avoid the spikes' attack and countering their machete attack will quickly neutralize them.

Once the last Skull attack is repelled, the metallic Archaea cloud will dissolve. At this point, all that remains is to retrieve Code Talker and call Pequod to finally be able to eradicate the epidemic that is decimating the Diamond Dogs.

Atypical Guide to Metal Gear Solid V - Mission 29: Metallic Archaea

Note: Skulls cannot be mined before completing Metallic Archaea. The arrival of Code Talker at the headquarters will allow him to develop a suit similar to theirs for Big Boss that to activate the special powers will need the essence of the original Skulls, from now on removable via Fulton both alive and dead.

If you haven't figured it out yet, what unites all those confined in quarantine (or, worse still, dead) is the language they speak, more specifically kikongo, linguistic lineage of the Banto language between Congo and Angola. To minimize losses, therefore, the solution was therefore to put everyone who spoke kikongo in the infirmary. As mentioned in the previous mission, the old American Indian plans through a bacterium called wolbachia to colonize parasites turning males into females and preventing reproduction which leads to the death of the host. It all happens in the cut scene, so once the mission is completed, your soldiers will finally stop dying.

    The life-saving wolbachia.

Now that the pieces have re-aligned on the board, thanks to the help of Code Talker and a more recalcitrant Huey Emmerich Skull Face's plan is revealed in all its horror: to sell minerals with trace amounts of uranium and metallic Archaea to anyone pay the fair. The Archaea will enrich the uranium which, loaded on the bipedal tanks, will also allow the smallest terrorist group to have nuclear potential. The theme of nuclear deterrence, of fundamental importance especially in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, returns in Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain in all its arrogance, with Skull Face proposing a total deterrence with the loss of excessive power of the United States and the Soviet Union, the superpowers that divided the world in two. At the same time, a safety device in Skull Face's hands will allow him to control whether and when to activate the nuclear warhead, concentrating the decision-making power not to individual states, but to a single man.

Another serious problem concerns the experiments that the head of XOF conducted and tested on the skin of the Diamond Dogs, the real weapon of mass destruction: parasites that attack a specific language and sweep it away together with the speaker. Ocelot, who knows about torture, snatches Emmerich (Snake's former ally in Peace Walker and later in the graces of Skull Face) the place where he is Sahelanthropus, whose official activation would put the whole world on alert, depleting their respective nuclear reserves. The scientist's giant creation is located in Afghanistan, at OKB Zero, a former Soviet base. Metal Gear Solid V thus starts its first conclusion.

Skull Face is a fixed thought.

With Sahelanthropus, Skull Face is not far away: it's time to put an end to his plans with the penultimate mission of (the first part of) the game. Hoping that this guide has been helpful (Archaea Metallici is considered among the most problematic) the appointment is with the next atypical guide of Metal Gear Solid V, dedicated to mission 30: Skull Face.
