Demon's Souls: 4K and 60 FPS not reached on PS5?

The new trailer for Demon's Souls shown during the Showcase event dedicated to PlayStation 5 allowed us to take a first look at one of the most anticipated next generation titles by fans. This remake, created by Bluepoint Games (parents also of the latest version of Shadow of the Colossus), has in fact brought us once again to the land of Boletaria with a portion of gameplay from the uncut tutorial area, and high small spots on the rest of the game. As often happens with new trailers, the guys at Digital Foundry have subjected everything to a careful examination to reveal all the technical details.

The first results are those relating to the resolution and number of frames; the response was almost granite 60 fps (except in a couple of particular situations, but still justified by a code that cannot be as efficient as at the exit) but of a 2K resolution (1440p). While motion blur and anti-aliasing have given a hard time in pixel counting, it would seem that this new Demon's Souls may not be able to hit 4K while maintaining 60fps. In fact, the one shown could be a "performance mode" with reduced resolution and greater fluidity, on the contrary the "graphics mode" could find the compromise at 30 fps to reach 4K.

Putting that aside, the new Demon's Souls seems to have convinced Digital Foundry especially with regard to the quality and level of detail, as well as the lighting effects and particles. All this even without the presence of Ray Tracing which was not deduced from what is shown (and which could therefore be an integral part of the graphics mode, or have a separate mode). In fact, we have many new details such as visual effects, sparks, blood and stone that spring from every blow, as well as new extremely fluid and detailed animations.

All this without talking about the instant loads using the Archstone or the sensory functions that will be added by DualSense (to find out more, refer to the dedicated article). Despite all this, the absence of what some might consider as the new quality standard of next gen consoles (4K at 60 fps) in this Demon's Souls could leave some doubts on the competitiveness, at least technical, of this console in the long run. However, let's not forget to keep in mind the fact that the true potential of a console is reached over time, and that however already in this state we are talking about the Souls (Bloodborne included) better qualitatively and technically speaking.
