Ray-Tracing on SNES, "Next-gen, move"

    Ray-Tracing on SNES,

Ray Tracing is one of those terms that, for those of us most attached to consul and fewer PC users, until the last generation meant (or cared) little or nothing, but the next-gen moved the checkers and now, checkmate, we have the Ray Tracing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (with applicable limits).

So far no particular news, right?

    Ray-Tracing on SNES,

You know almost as well as we do that the world is full of lunatics and perhaps the craziest are PC modders, dedicated creators of some of the most absurd and mind-blowing things in the fan-made gaming world.

A modder, game dev and software engineer, such Ben Carter, has decided to push the bar (technological and madness) a little further, bringing Ray Tracing to some games… of the Super Nintendo.

Carter's intent was to achieve something not too far from what he did with the Super FX Chip by Nintendo on titles like Star Fox and did it by creating a chip FGPA (essentially a programmable logic device) capable of rendering Ray Tracing on SNES, more precisely the Super Famicom.

The chip is capable of reproducing “single bounce” reflections and directional shadows, but if you are interested in the specs, all you have to do is watch the video.
