If you are a Whatsapp user and your Android smartphone was broken or stolen, you probably need to delete your WhatsApp account to make it inaccessible. Steps to delete an account on WhatsApp

This option is valid for those who want to terminate their account from the active service. If you choose to delete, all contacts, chats, all past activities will be removed from your WhatsApp account, including pending backups. Basically, everything will be gone:

  • WhatsApp groups and contacts
  • Message history
  • Synchronized contacts
  • And backups are Google Drive

Now that you understand and still want to delete WhatsApp account, follow the instructions below:

  • In WhatsApp, go to Settings > Accounts > Delete account.
  • Confirm your choice by pressing Delete account.

Enter the required information on the screen and continue. It is possible to simply transfer your account to a new number, if you already have a new phone and a new SIM.

What happens after deleting your WhatsApp account

  • You will no longer be visible in your friends' WhatsApp contact list.
  • You will be removed from all groups.
  • Your profile will be deleted from your phone.
  • Your Google Drive backup will be deleted.
  • Messages you sent before deleting your account will still be visible to your friends.

How to deactivate your account on WhatsApp in case of theft.

If your phone has been stolen, perhaps the most viable option to disable WhatsApp is through your carrier, i.e. blocking the SIM card. If you are unable to do this for some reason, you can disable your account directly from WhatsApp.

Also, blocking the SIM card will not stop using WhatsApp on Wi-Fi, so it is an incomplete solution.

To deactivate your WhatsApp account, you need to send an email to WhatsApp. Your account will be deactivated immediately after sending the email. You will be able to reactivate your account via SMS or a phone call, as you normally would, as a new activation. If you do not reactivate your account within 30 days, it will be permanently deleted.

To deactivate your WhatsApp account, follow these steps:

  • Use an email client (Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook or any other) to send a message to the following address: [email protected];
  • The subject line of the email should be: "Lost / Stolen: Deactivate my account";
  • In the body of the email, put: "Lost / Stolen: please deactivate my account (your full international phone number reported).

Once you have typed the email correctly, send it and wait, your account will be deactivated immediately. It is recommended not to send multiple emails with the same request. If necessary, the application support team will contact you. Remember, you have 30 days to reactivate your account before it is permanently deleted.
