Atypical Guide to Metal Gear Solid V - Mission 20: Voices

    Third appointment with the atypical guide, in which we dissect the most significant missions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. As such, the premises are no longer needed. It is the turn of Voices, number 20 on iDroid and key mission in Central Africa.

    Child soldiers from the previous mission kindly asked Snake to rescue their leader, Shabani, a boy who was captured and taken to a place that the local population calls "Nzo ya Badiabulu", the House of the Devil, feared for its mystery.

    Atypical Guide to Metal Gear Solid V - Mission 20: Voices

    Main objectives of the mission:

    1. Shabani mining.

    Secondary objectives:

    1. Hit the floating boy;
    2. Fight with the Man on Fire;
    3. Find your way to the West Guard Post in the Ngumba Industrial Zone;
    4. Extraction of the African dog near Ngumba;
    5. Hear the conversation about the bodies at Munoko ya Nioka station.

    Mission 20, entitled Voices, is a turning point in Metal Gear Solid V. It sets the stage for an "unfortunate series of events" that will gradually affect Big Boss and company, whose effects will last at least until mission 28, Code Talker, which we will cover in a later guide.

    The approach to the mission:

    Voices is distinctly divided into two parts: arriving at Ngumba Industrial Zone, about 2 km away from where Pequod leaves us (near Munoko ya Nioka Station) and the post-arrival that (we would like to say spoilers, but Kojima anticipates us with his credits as a TV series) will see us engaged with a revived Man on Fire. Therefore our equipment must cover two tasks, knowing full well that conventional weapons do not work very well against the Skull Face "lackey".

    Un companion is relatively useful in this mission. Before choosing, keep in mind that what Ocelot says is not true: passing through Munoko ya Nioka Station is not the only way to reach the goal. As shown on the map, you can go around the whole area and come out at mini roadblock # 20 by turning left, rather than in the "mouth of the snake" (translation of the station). If you choose this alternative, given theuselessness of any companion against the Man on Fire, then the old dear D-Horse, fast but quiet, comes to our aid. If you choose or end up crossing Munoko ya Nioka Station, it is good to bring D-Dog o Quiet to speed up the transition a bit. Equip it with the most appropriate sniper rifle according to your intentions. Quiet also can distract the Man on Fire while D-Dog would only be called back to headquarters if he dared to attack him.

    An unexpected encounter.

    The equipment:

    We come to the juiciest part, the equipment: prefer a sneaking suit given the long route or the “Black Ocelot” dress if you face the mission in the evening. If you take it in the daytime, a forest camouflage suit is just fine. As primary weapons we need an automatic weapon like an assault rifle, even basic level, and maybe a sniper rifle, tranquilizer, of those who never betray. A second combo could be a shotgun and a machine gun of any kind, which covers the automatic weapon function. As a secondary weapon, the choice we propose is the Water gun. Never before in this mission have there been makeshift fires lit by soldiers due to the poor visibility of the area, and the gun is the only weapon capable of extinguishing them. Also, being water the only weak point of the Man on Fire ... The water gun works against him, but it takes several magazines to trouble him. Not a tactic to depend on, but possible. The gun has many functions, from distracting a soldier to silently counter-circuiting equipment. It is your wild card. Let's also bring the terrible three: night visor, some smoke grenades and the C-4, which will serve us against the Man on Fire. Let's go, Pequod!

    The mission:

    The most comfortable choice is to get around the roadblock with D-Horse and continue, losing some cargo and some diamonds: nothing special. If you need soldiers or for any other reason you want to go through the entrance "recommended" by the game, some sentries will try to stop you: go around to the right and climb the hill, so you can take care of these without problems and find yourself inside the station. Going a little further and avoiding the road that passes right in the middle of the enemy camp, take either the road to the left by opening a gate or to the right using the buildings as covers. Sneaking past, or having done it half an hour earlier with the help of the horse, checkpoint # 20 contains only two soldiers that you can easily get rid of.

    Pass # 20 and open the gate, you will arrive in an area where, by mission script, there will always be fog. The suspension bridge is out of order, so the only choice will be to go down into the valley and approach checkpoint # 17. This is swarming with soldiers who see us well despite the fog. For freedom of movement, you should take them out of the equation in any way. Try to interrogate at least one: it should reveal where the large diamonds are (you basically have to go up to the left of the checkpoint and circumnavigate the area against Miller's directions to get to the other side of the bridge). The area is not the best place to mine soldiers - in fog you have about 70% chance of fulton extraction. Only in # 17 there are three lit fires, and here is the water gun has the chance to shine in the military firmament of Metal Gear Solid.

    A beautiful girl takes over from Snake in the misty part.

    You will not be able to proceed beyond this last roadblock due to a waterfall: go up to the left and come near a lonely tent with a fake soldier. Drop under the nearby log and continue past a collapsing cavern. It won't collapse (yet), don't worry. We arrived at Ngumba Industrial Zone: the Devil's House.

    Silence, too much silence. An almost ghostly place, the area is completely deserted: we have left the last soldiers of the mission behind. Explore the area, even if there is very little to collect, mentally marking what the battlefield will be: two cars, a few tanks and the central building, your destination.

    The entrance to the building is on your left: yes, the old blue door with blood on the ground. Once you enter, you will be greeted by a leaden atmosphere and a view as creepy, but never as creepy as the following: this abandoned place gross of blood, whose stench you can smell, is the scene of inhuman experiments. Rows of beds with men, women and children in trance tied firmly with straps, in the throat the headphones of a radio with an incomprehensible language. Violet and contagious growths at sight alone: Shabani is in there. I live by a miracle ... for a little while longer.

    A gruesome sight.

    Snake finds Shabani and notices what's growing on his abdomen: it's too late. Shabani weakly holds a pendant with a lucky animal in his hand. Beyond the adjacent tent, Skull Face gives extreme unction to a poor devil. Shabani complains, struggles. It's the last straw: Skull Face, recognizing Snake, decides he's done with the guinea pigs. The disfigured man recalls the Man on Fire, controlled by a boy floating in midair wearing a gas mask who has no qualms about ending the existence of a peer of his age. Shabani is history, just like everyone else, and Snake… Snake has to escape.

    The showdown with the Man on Fire.

    The Man on Fire will blow up the building and, stubborn, will try to grab us: if he catches us it will be instant death. For all other attacks, Snake has supernatural stamina that allows us to take at least two hits. We have to escape via helicopter, but as long as the Man on Fire plays like cat and mouse with us, it won't be safe to call him.. It is useless to go to the cave, because it will collapse.

    It may seem difficult to get rid of this vengeful being, and instead there are several ways. If you have explored the area well before, you will have noticed how it is there an element that abounds in the industrial area: water. Two large cisterns, a few smaller blue cisterns and above all a pool in the center make Big Boss's goal easier. The Man on Fire has several attacks: can teleport to get closer to its target faster, launch classic fireballs, and sprout columns of fire. If, boldly, we were to try to fire several shots, this laboratory monster would make a devastating counterattack, similar to what we saw in the initial hospital in Cyprus, absorbing the shots and returning them in all directions to the sender. The only firearm more useful against him is a shotgun, which will knock him to the ground and stun for a moment. Should you push the Man on Fire into the pool with a well-timed shotgun shot, the battle will be over.. If you can't (or can't) get it in place properly, then there are more conventional methods that can knock it out or stop it altogether.

    The water gun alone, in reality, used in a targeted manner is capable in the long run of stopping the creature effectively. Anyway, placing the C-4 near the larger tanks or firing the smaller ones when the Man on Fire is in proximity will have the same effect: the latter will bend down to regain his strength. Punctually, the floating kid who's watching him will come out. Hit (so to speak) about twenty times, the little medium will disappear and with him control over the Man on Fire.. Just shoot at him, who will quickly avoid the shot, and repeat the thing until he decides to fight it: an automatic weapon is recommended for this, like the suggested assault rifle, which will allow us to make the most of the cooldown time of the Man on Fire. Once he's gone, we can call the helicopter without any problems.

    Another, more reckless method, that is to pour the contents of a tank onto the flaming man, call the helicopter and escape, will not be very effective, since the opponent will wake up in time to destroy him in a few seconds. Hitting the floating kid is the safest tactic. It is impossible to extract the Man on Fire with any fulton upgrade you have available: will always break the strings, with all due respect to Kazuhira Miller. Furthermore, if the small medium is still present, it will pierce the ball preventing even more the attempt.

    Big Boss's "phantom pain".

    Back at headquarters, Snake will have the thankless task of breaking the news to Shabani's friends. With an action that is worth a thousand words, the adult will deliver the Shabani pendant to the ex-child soldiers, who will retreat sadly to their rooms, leaving their neo-leader to meditate on the filthy and still mysterious plans of Skull Face.

    Appointment to the next significant mission, number 23, White Mamba, where we will have to deal - whether we like it or not - with heavily armed child soldiers.
