Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Sif the Great Gray Wolf

Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Sif the Great Gray Wolf

Once you get over the fight with Quelaag and once the second awakening bell has been rung, it is possible (prevention is better than cure) to take a small step back and return to the Church of the Undead to delve into the deepest meanders of it. On the lowest level of the structure, in fact, it is possible to access one of the most beautiful, fascinating, and rich in meaning and lore of the whole game: the Dark Root Garden.

Another and more important boss of the Dark Souls universe is hiding within the dark land: Sif, the Great Gray Wolf. Do you know its history? No? Very bad ... but don't worry! There is a remedy for everything.

    Strategy and useful advice

The battle begins with the boss ready to attack you: try to keep the shield up as you approach and move away if he turns his head to the left. When you get close enough to him, try to attack him (or heal yourself, if you need to) by standing under his muzzle, while he executes the first combo on the list (the one indicated by the fact that he turns to the right). Always walk away in time when he is about to make one of the two 360 ° attacks, hold the shield up when you are not attacking and approach when he flips away. With a little patience and experience in identifying and then preventing his moves, Sif will be defeated, leaving you with a lot of sadness and his precious drop. Also know that hitting his legs, sooner or later they will break and so the wolf will no longer be able to run or jump.

Never remove the target from the boss or turn your back on him: he is very fast and will make you pay dearly. Always keep an eye on him and be patient.

    Attacks

    • Combo of two or three hits - series of hits easily identified by the fact that the wolf, before executing it, turns his head to your right; after turning, he will swing to the left, then to the right and, occasionally, he will raise his sword and attack in front of him: you can dodge the blows by rolling or going under him
    • Charge - attack in which the wolf charges the player and tries to hit him with the sword, capable of inflicting massive damage
    • Double 360 ° Attack - easily identifiable attack because, before executing it, the wolf turns its head to your left; Sif will try to hit you by performing two turns on himself, one of which is parable, while the second is not; We therefore advise you to avoid it, because it is a very dangerous attack, capable of taking away a large amount of life points
    • Somersault - the wolf performs a back flip, damaging the player and moving away from him

    Drop

    • 40,000 anime
    • a Humanity
    • a Bone of Return
    • Artorias Covenant Ring (key item, useful for reaching the Abyss unharmed)
    • Soul of Sif (joined with a light sword hilt +10 forms the Greatsword of Artorias, while joined with any greatsword +10 forms the cursed version of the aforementioned greatsword; each of the two weapons has its own particular utility; instead, combined with a shield +10 forms the Shield of Artorias)

We could talk about Sif and his sad story (and that of his master) for hours, days. The gigantic animal, which protects an equally gigantic tombstone (and its master's sword) is actually placed to guard a fundamental object that will allow us to enter the depths of the Abyss. Sif will try in every way to prevent us from continuing, but not out of malice: but to help us. After all, his master, Artorias, has made the same dramatic journey, descending into the Abyss to defeat the advance of the curse that was destroying the County of Oolacile but which, in the end, was devoured by that incredible darkness. He would like to save us, Sif, and you can also tell by the howl filled with sadness that you can hear just before his defeat. Later in the game, more precisely in the part of the plot told in the DLC, we will come across (yes, there is a clear temporal dislocation) in the "puppy" version of Sif, which we could decide to save or not. A gesture that is obvious, of course, and also well rewarded.

Dark Souls has the task of telling many stories, but none can be as solemn as nostalgic as that of Sif, whose greatness is not due to the size of his body ... but of his heart!
