Ghostrunner - Preview

3D Realms has already distinguished itself in the past for very dynamic and positively exaggerated action games in their gameplay, such as Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior. This time we previewed a title that could be defined with a fairly similar feeling.

It is Ghostrunner, also a first-person action product developed by One More Level, 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks and published by 505 Games and All in! Games.

The player plays the XNUMXth bodyguard belonging to a military defense group called Ghostrunner. Although he has just woken up from a bad fall, he seems to be ready to follow the directions of the benevolent voice in his head that indicates the path to take.

Once you have massacred a couple of enemies and found a safe place, it turns out that the voice in question is that of the Architect, or rather the builder of the huge skyscraper named "Dharma Tower" - home of humanity - as well as being the one who hired us for protection. The goal is to kill Mara, the woman at the head of the coup devised in order to take over the tower as absolute sovereign.

Ghostrunner's gameplay is very dynamic and immediate. The game is divided into levels, to be overcome by making your way through the enemies with guns and moving through the environment. It is possible to move between the various spaces of the scenario in different ways: by running from wall to wall, sliding into tight spaces, climbing, using the grappling hook, all while tearing apart enemies with the high-tech katana supplied to the mercenary.

Opponents with a single shot of a laser weapon are capable of taking down the player, but the bullets have been designed to be dodged quite easily with a little coordination or by stopping time in flight and thus maneuvering the movements. The title is entirely single-player, but you can compare the time it takes to complete the different levels with your friends and then see who got the best result.

For the creation of the graphics sector of the game it was decided to use the free Unreal Engine. Ghostrunner is set in a cyberpunk future: the buildings are hyper-technological, but at the same time crumbling to consciously adapt within the context of the plot.

The watchword is “speed”, and for this reason the background music is electronic in nature and quite lively, making it perfect for transmitting a further sense of dynamism to the player.

Unfortunately we were only able to play the game for a few minutes, but they were still very interesting. To be able to test the product in its entirety it will be necessary to wait a month, as Ghostrunner is coming on October 27 for PC on the Epic Games Store, Steam and GOG platforms, along with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles for the price of 29,99 euros. If you pre-order the title, in addition to a 20% discount you will also get a katana - as an object to be used in the game - with a unique design depending on the platform chosen.

The minimum requirements to run the game are a 7-bit WIndows 64 operating system, an Intel i3-2100 or AMD A8-5600k processor, RAM memory of at least 8GB, finally a GeForce GTX 630 or Radeon HD 6570 video card.
