While it essentially means permanently hiding stories from a particular Instagram user you follow, it's called Mute / Unmute on Instagram. Why shouldn't you just stop following them? Think about it.

You may like a person and want them in your life but, for whatever reason, you don't want to see them on Instagram. If you no longer follow someone, they will find out and may not take it so lightly. That's why you can easily silence someone's stories without them knowing.

This is very easy to do and quite simple. Just go to the story bar at the top of the Instagram screen, find the story you want to mute and hold the person's story icon without not touching their story.

In the pop-up menu that appears, tap Turn off sound and from now on you will never see this person's stories again.

If you want to unmute a person, go back to the story bar and scroll to the end, where you will see the muted stories. Hold and tap Reactivate. You can do it as many times as you want.

WHO CAN SEE MY STORY?

If your account is in private mode, only authorized people can access it and see your posts and stories. You can hide your stories from them but they will still be able to see your posts. To activate private mode, go to Settings , touch Privacy, passes to Privacy account and turn on the option next to Settings private account.

If your account is public, anyone who comes across your account can also see your stories. All they have to do is go to your profile and tap on your profile picture.
