Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Review

Review for Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 19/09/2017

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is the title you do not expect. A little Street Fighter, a little Marvel Super Heroes, the follow-up to the glorious Japanese series embraces the path of simplification and immediacy, while not giving up the depth of a varied and articulated combat system.

Although not exactly highly anticipated, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is finally here. How will it behave in a landscape almost totally monopolized by the majestic Tekken 7?

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Review

For those who have lived on Mars for the past two years, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite takes the form of a fighting game based on frenetic two-on-two tag team fights and having a combat system based basically on the use of six buttons. All so similar to many other exponents of the genre, but only in appearance: the playful system turns out to be much more exotic than it seems.

Together with the four keys assigned to weak and strong punches and kicks, two additional buttons are revealed, one destined to change the character on the fly, the other to use the power contained in the Infinity Gem. That's right: before each battle, it is possible to select one of the six gems from which to draw tasty buffs, able to upset the outcome of the virtual challenges.

Other changes compared to the usual can be found in the extreme simplicity of performing ground to air combo (just press a single button ad libitum, or crouch, throw a strong punch and press the four attack buttons in sequence) and super moves: in in the latter case, you just need to have the special bar loaded and press the strong kick together with the strong punch.

If it is true that purists will turn up their noses in front of these radical simplifications, it should be emphasized that the introduction of gems applies a perceptible, further layer of complexity to the entire playful canvas. By loading a second bar, in fact, it will be possible to exploit the real power of the gems, projecting your character into an alternative dimension, in order to exploit the true hidden abilities of each precious stone.

And there really is something for everyone: the special powers obtainable in this way for a short time range from an increase in the damage inflicted, up to the possibility of attracting opponents to oneself. Needless to say the activation of such powers through Infinity Storm opens the door to victory, accelerating the chance to perform devastating third level Hyper Combo.

Gems also play a central role in history, the real novelty in terms of game modes offered by Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Equipped with a good narrative rhythm and tasty references to the history of the two majors, this playful declination keeps you busy for about two or three hours, also acting as a convoluted tutorial through which to be indoctrinated on commands and gameplay, as well as accompanied by the hand in the discovery of quite large roster of Japanese opera.

The other options allow you to participate in online matches, ranked or not, to challenge a friend in local versus, rather than training both through the good Training mode, as through the Mission mode, which proposes a series of challenges characterized by increasing complexity.

Technically, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite doesn't disappoint, building its foundations on Unreal Engine 4. Abandoning the cartoonish style contemplated since the dawn of the saga, the title embraces a more serious graphic representation, depicting the anabolic heroes who populate the binary code of the production in a fluid and cinematically flawless way. Note the presence of numerous fully dubbed scenes (in English).

At the end of the review, we point out theexemplary the work done by Capcom regarding the reactivity and precision of the controls, also via pad.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Review

One blow to the rim, one to the barrel. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite winks at casual, simplifying the combat system of the series, while inviting veterans to enjoy an unprecedented layer full of depth through the introduction of the Infinity Stones. It is a divisive title, which risks becoming for some the ultimate fighting game, for others just another, negligible product.
