Speaking to Wired magazine, Spencer said verbatim: “I think 8K is simply a technological aspiration. The display capabilities of the devices are not yet usable, so we are very far from thinking of 8K resolution as the standard in video games, assuming that it never will be “.
There are indeed multiple factors to consider, mainly to ask how many have an 8K TV or monitor on which to view such images. According to Liz Hamren, head of game-engineering at Xbox, the data available to Microsoft suggests that even the adoption of the same 4K TV is actually less than what editors might think. This relegates the fateful 8K to little more than a chimera, for now.
Not to mention, of course, the projections on the economic side. At the moment to guarantee a (theoretical) 8K experience, we should focus on a top video card from € 2000 and a no less expensive monitor, and certainly that kind of performance would not be the prerogative of the next-gen consoles outgoing.
