Dragon Quest XI: Guide to the ultimate Shangri-La challenge

Dragon Quest XI: Guide to the ultimate Shangri-La challenge

One of the biggest challenges of the Dragon Quest XI endgame is the final test of Shangri-la, the latest in a series of challenges that require you to beat certain enemies within a certain number of turns and swap characters each round. The fewer rounds spent, the higher the reward. To get each reward in the last challenge, you'll need to complete it in less than 30 moves. The battle is tough, but the reward is the best heavy sword in the game, which is useful if you're doing a broadsword build for Hero or Hendrik.

In this guide we will advise you on how to face the battle to be able to finish the last Shangri-la challenge in the shortest possible time.

Dragon Quest XI: Guide to the ultimate Shangri-La challenge

First of all, we advise you to bring all the characters to 99, following our farming guide, then equip them with weapons at least at the level of those that can be purchased at the shop of the first city (find here a guide on how to unlock it). The battle is divided into 4 rounds, each of which is designed more to waste time than to put in difficulty. In fact, the teacher Pang will summon new enemies every turn to extend an already arduous battle.

The first fight will be against two angry clouds and a demon, this fight is the most basic of the challenge, but not underestimated. In fact, the difficulty of this round is not so much to finish it as to choose who to send on the field. Personally we recommend Jade (any build as long as you know the pink pirouette move) and Sylvando, with these two characters and the "pink pirouette" aoes you will be able to finish the battle in more or less 4 or 5 turns, do not worry about the slow start, in the next rounds we will buy time.

The second battle, on the other hand, is perhaps one of the most deceptive. The round will start with only one enemy, an octopus, but this has a disproportionate life and the teacher Pang will summon new enemies from turn to turn. In this round there are 2 practicable tactics without sacrificing the following rounds which must necessarily be the quickest to complete. The first method consists in entering into battle with Hendrik (ax) and Hero (greatsword), both perky, with the strongest weapons they have (possibly upgraded to the maximum degree) and using their perky attacks to shoot the first enemy and avoid that Pang conjure up others. The second method, on the other hand, requires more rounds but is feasible with weapons with lower statistics. It requires Rab (any weapon) and Hero (Double Swords) in the field, with the latter having to have equipped the two swords of light (find the guide to creating the second here). The tactic is simple from here on out, spamming Amen and Lightblade until all the summoned enemies manage to fall at the same time. it may take a while but if you are still under 20 moves at the end of the battle it is practically done.

The third round will start with a mimik, soon to be joined by 2 more creatures. Here too the one-shot hypothesis is valid, but the best way to end the battle is with Erik's aoes. The team must be made up of Erik (boomerang) and another character, or Rab (better for the situation) or Hendrik (quite useless). The trick is to use the skill that triples Erik's damage (split) and then use Double Smash.

We are therefore at the last turn, the simplest one if you have followed the guide so far. The goal? Finish it in a maximum of 2 moves, using Veronica (magician's rod) and Serenica (magician's rod). The three enemies that will be summoned by Pang can do little against the enormous damage that the sisters can do. Again there are 2 methods, one is that the sisters are both "perky" and use their "Final Blast" attack which consumes all their MP. This is the safest method, but it is also possible to end the battle using Veronica's “Magic Blast”, if anyone is left standing they will have so few HP that they can be finished off by Serenica before Pang calls back the supports.
