Electronic Arts will have to modify the loot-boxes in the Netherlands

We now know well that Microtransactions are a major hub of the latest generations of consoles, for better or for worse.

In more or less invasive (and intrusive) ways they have spilled over most of the existing play structures, also altering their balance in more or less evident ways. Among these, FIFA certainly stands out, which in particular through the Ultimate Team mode has "married" in a way that is all too evident, to put it this way, with the phenomenon in question.

Electronic Arts will have to modify the loot-boxes in the Netherlands

For those few who don't know, in FIFA 21 (but also in the other chapters of the series) and in particular within Ultimate Team it is possible to buy packets of "cards" containing players, to be deployed later on the field, clearly in exchange for real money, with the aim of strengthening one's team. Of course, they are not mandatory, but they become almost indispensable at some point in the game, especially if you want to compete at certain levels.

Many have fought on the issue for a long time and, in some countries, the first steps have been taken in the direction of a tougher attack on Electronic Arts and its politics. For example, we are talking about Holland where, due to a sentence passed a few days ago, the well-known company will have three weeks to remove or heavily modify this system from its products on local territory, to avoid running into a heavy fine. .

For every week that things will remain unchanged Electronic Arts will have to pay € 500.000 in penalty, an important sum but not for a giant who invoices at least 6-7 billion a year (at least 2 of these from microtransactions) and which, of course, is doing wall against wall for now.

The allegations in question were raised by Netherlands Gambling Authority and are based on the principle that they can potentially lead to addiction in some gamers.
