During a quiet day in May, Bandai Namco Entertainment broadcast a live stream dedicated to one of the most prolific titles ever: God Eater 3. Although the release on home consoles was now behind us, the Japanese software house surprisingly announced the 'arrival of the title also on the hybrid from Nintendo: despite this porting has not "surprised" by igniting the hoped-for frenzy in the fans of the title, God Eater 3 is perfect for the portability and nature of Nintendo Switch. After months of intrepid waiting, the title is finally available for all those who love the genre in question or multimedia works such as Monster Hunter, Toukiden or the new Dauntless.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

Within this "new" version we will find some exclusive features designed to celebrate the release on Nintendo Switch: Bandai Namco has officially entered, via a patch, the local multiplayer and costumes of the heroes of Tales of Vesperia. Probably many of you will ask: is God Eater 3 able to conquer and bring even newbies to this exciting adventure? Above all, is it able to satisfy the veterans of the series even on the small one from Nintendo? Let's find out together in this new review!God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

Where it all begins ...

The scenario of this last chapter is quite interesting and full of surprises: we will be catapulted into a post-apocalyptic world set on fire by the Oracle Cells, or a mysterious energy from which monstrous creatures called Aragami are born. In this world left to itself, we will find the last survivors and military organizations that will desperately try to clean the cities of the remaining monsters in the surrounding area. To do this they will resort to a special group of fighters called precisely God eaters: these warriors are real slaves who serve the "upper floors", putting their lives at risk in every clash with the frightening and gigantic Aragami.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

Before starting our adventure, we will have to customize our protagonist through a simple but effective editor: we will have several options available including customization of the face, appearance, voice and much more.

The plot of God Eater 3 starts fast and precise, we tend to glue ourselves to the screen for about twenty-five hours of frenetic adventure excluding, of course, the side quests or the various extra missions within the title. Unfortunately, in the long run, we will realize that we walk the same maps several times, feeling bored after a few hours of play. Thanks to the quality of the narration and the atmospheres, however, the Bandai Namco title will offer us a unique experience worthy of its predecessors, making the underlying repetitiveness present in the multimedia work pass more subdued.

Swords and rifles go hand in hand

In God Eater 3 we will have a more dynamic approach during the fights, giving a twist to the gameplay seen so far: the battles will be more frenetic and will take on a more action and extravagant style, thus giving us epic and action-packed clashes. Thanks to new fighting styles, we will have the opportunity to carefully study our opponents so as to take advantage of them during the clashes: in this chapter we will be able to use a quick shot (essential for attacking enemies by surprise and quickly) and special maneuvers that will allow us to unleash powerful combos against surrounding opponents. During our test, we got to try the most special ability of all, the bite: using the latter, we will transform the God Arc into a beast with jaws that, once attacked the Aragami, will guarantee us to receive precious loot to be used within the game to upgrade weapons or equipment.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

One of the many new features included in God Eater 3 is certainly that of being able to transform our blades into a long-range firearm: by pressing the R key of our Nintendo Switch, we will transform our sword into a powerful rifle which, unfortunately, did not fully satisfy us. Aiming and hitting enemies is complex and ineffective, forcing us several times to prefer blades to fire.

Dialogues are key to the overall experience and trust me there are so many: talking to other NPCs will give us the opportunity to receive new special missions and to discover new characters and their stories. During the daily missions it will be important to carefully look at the surrounding area as it is full of materials and special rewards that await only us: by earning the various materials that we will collect around, we will be able to enhance our armor and our equipment in a truly remarkable way and we will be able to indulge ourselves with the creations of the latter.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

Audio and graphics do their job, but only in part

A point in favor is certainly the audio and visual sector of the title which, despite some limitations due to the Nintendo home console, turned out to be more interesting than expected: the music within God Eater 3 is quite satisfying, often giving us epic moments and unique melodies of their kind. We cannot say the same about the stock's graphic sector, which disappoints in terms of resolution, especially if we count the quality of the grainy textures and not optimized in the best way: in addition to this small "inconvenience", we will also notice some pop-up problems on some game environments. The videos and some cutscenes offer an excellent resolution instead, proving how the development team has worked carefully on this technical aspect compared to other details.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

We cannot complain instead about the frame rate of the game which, for almost the entire duration of time, it was always stable even in the most difficult and chaotic occasions: the frame rate was always stable at 30fps and we rarely had drops. The title is perfectly enjoyable both in portable mode and in docked mode: we tried it more in portable mode and it was perfectly adapted to Nintendo Switch.

The developers necessarily had to give up something to make God Eater 3 stable and fluid in every occasion and in every fight. With a little more effort, a better result would certainly have been achieved and closer to what was seen on other home consoles, but the final result looks more than good despite the inferior hardware of Nintendo.God Eater 3 - Nintendo Switch Review

God Eater 3 is a title that perfectly embraces the nature of Nintendo Switch and intertwines history, gameplay and portability in a homogeneous way. Despite some limitations related to the repetitiveness of the maps and the graphics sector that is not entirely exceptional, the title is quite fluid and clean even on the small one from Nintendo. We recommend this multimedia work both to those who have never approached the genre in question, and to those who have followed the Bandai Namco saga since the beginning. The title is available for 59,99 in both physical and digital versions on the Nintendo eShop.
