Just Dance 2018 - Review

Review for Just Dance 2018. Game for Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Switch, the video game was released on 24/10/2017 The version for PlayStation 4 came out on 26/10/2017

Instrumental to the disproportionate success of Wii (and Kinect later), Just Dance is now one of those names that - to video game fans - will sound a bit archaic: many will think looking at the title of this review of something like "Ah, but do they still do them? ".

Just Dance 2018 - Review

The answer is yes: Ubisoft continues to churn out every year a new chapter of one of the best-selling series in the history of video games (+60 million copies) from 2009 to today, making happy not so much those who debate between the pixels of COD WWII on Playstation 4 Pro vs Xbox One X, but more than anything else a videogame undergrowth of mothers, children and families who loves to let loose to the rhythm of the latest hits with a remote control in hand. You even think that a Wii version is still produced and is still the best-selling!

we at Epic Videogames Guide ft. VGNetwork we aim to be the voice of all the fringes of the gaming world and, although the "fashion" of Just Dance may be over, we are sure that there are many out there who in the end can't wait to dance in their living room in front of the their consul, so let's go give you our opinion on Just Dance 2018, recently released in shops all over the peninsula.

Just Dance 2018 - Review

As you can see, it is one quite varied list, with many famous songs especially in the United States, but that does its job managing to propose what were perhaps the two strongest hits of the summer: Despacito and Shape of You by Ed Sheeran. For the nostalgic of the 80s we recommend the phenomenal Footloose from the musical of the same name, while the Italian Blue by Eiffel 65 is the only homage to the 90s (bad bad!). The 2012 World Cup Waka Waka and a song by Disney's beautiful Oceania also provide variety.

If these songs weren't enough then, in every pack of the game in Europe, Ubisoft has included a three month free subscription to its Just Dance Unlimited online service, basically an on-demand selection of songs mainly coming from the old chapters of the series, accessible and playable with the interface of Just Dance 2018: really nice to have more than 300 other pieces available at any time, albeit for a limited time before becoming paid.

How long before Just Dance Unlimited becomes the heart of Just Dance, without the need for a new chapter of the series to buy every year?

Something for everyone

In addition to renewing the tracklist, Just Dance 2018 introduces a new mode dedicated to the little ones. In fact, by selecting Just Dance Kids from the main menu, we will be able to access a simplified version of the game interface, without too many statistics or options and with a selection of colorful songs for everyone. Basically Ubisoft has managed to create a new mode by removing elements from the main game: geniuses! Seriously, if you have a 4-year-old cousin you want to park in front of the TV, these are the droids you've been looking for (OK sorry, the wait for The Last Jedi is getting more and more important, NDR).

Just Dance offers fitness solutions, with a calorie counter and more intense dance routines (although for those who don't use PS Camera or Kinect we can't honestly understand how reliable the Kcal count can be), in addition to the Dance Lab , a series of themed challenges on different music tracks.

For those playing on the Nintendo Switch, Ubisoft has also included multiplayer support with a single Joy-Con on a new mode called Double Rumble, which takes advantage of the console's fantastic HD Rumble functionality to offer you a different challenge based on vibration.

All right, but DO NOT USE A SMARTPHONE

Just Dance 2018 is a finished and refined product, obviously not deep, but immediate and fun, for everyone: an excellent Christmas gift. But before you jump - calm down! - in the shops at the cry of Despacito we must launch a disclaimer, or maybe two.

Just Dance 2018 - Review

First of all, JD 2018 is little more than a song update from last year's episode. And that of the previous year. And so on. So if maybe you want to return to the series after a period of blocking, then let nothing stop you, this is a really fun title. Different speech for those who had already bought it for their children a year ago: in that case perhaps it does not deserve a new outlay.

The second warning for sailors concerns the much heralded - and on paper truly revolutionary - functionality to play Just Dance 2018 without Kinect, Wiimote, PS Move, etc., simply by downloading the game app on your smartphone and using it as a controller. It just doesn't work. There isn't much to go around it: everything is prepared very well and for the first few minutes it might seem like heaven, but the constant disconnections make the experience a disaster, really frustrating. Especially if you have guests at home.

Just Dance 2018 - Review

Being careful not to bet everything on the game via smartphone, Just Dance 2018 does its own, giving us a list of current songs with some nice surprises and a huge library with JD Unlimited. Admitted and not granted that you still want to throw yourself on the track, clearly, after so many years and so many episodes.
