Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Episode 2: The New World - Review

Even in the days that see "robetta" like Super Mario Odyssey or Wolfenstein II come out in physical and digital stores of the Peninsula, the writer couldn't wait to return from vacation not only for these fantastic multimillion-dollar productions, but above all for the second episode of a certainly atypical videogame that responds to the name of Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Episode 2: The New World.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Episode 2: The New World - Review

For those who still don't know, Before the Storm is a prequel to the award-winning Life is Strange, a modern adventure with teen colors and very strong emotions. In Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Episode 2: The New World we follow the story of Chloe Price, the best friend of the protagonist of the original title, and her difficult but magical with the girl who changed her life: Rachel Amber . In this review we will talk openly about the events of the first episode, Wake up, then abstain from those of you who have not yet played it.

    Arcadia Bay is on fire

The entirety of the events of this second The New World, has as its background the fire caused by Rachel in the cliffhanger of "Wake Up", which has now spread like wildfire and a real threat to the city. The small Oregon borough reacts sleepily to flames, a looming and omnipresent element in Before the Storm photography, always of extremely high quality.

The events resume with Chloe and Rachel struggling with the consequences of their escape from school, yet another act of rebellion for Chloe and instead a real surprise for the apparently perfect blonde from California. In the very first sequences of this chapter - always of the duration between two and three hours - the irreverent Price comes in fact suspended from school, an element that, combined with an always deficient with David, her mother's boyfriend, will completely convince her of her plan to permanently leave the city with Rachel, a Bonnie & Clyde escape, whose preparation will permeate all the events of the episode.

    Self-quotationism

Without further detailing the plot to leave you the pleasure of discovering it with your hands and your eyes, Before the Storm - Episode 2 winks in many parts to the original title, presenting places, situations and characters taken from the Dontnod game. It will be almost impossible to hold back a smile in many moments, however not thrown in by chance, but instrumental to the narration.

The new world does not lead no news from the point of view of gameplay, which certainly remains the least successful part of the game. The camera is often your enemy in tight places even by adjusting its sensitivity and the sections in which we can use Chloe's gab to win verbal battles with NPCs do not convince us yet, not even in this second iteration.

    Chapeau

But all this does not matter, because the script and story of Life is Strange: Before the Storm continue to be masterful and with nothing to envy to the adventures that preceded them. Also in The New World the emotions will flow freely, as well as the twists and turns and the revelations that will grip us in view of the release of the final chapter (in truth there will also be a fourth appendix dedicated to Max, let's imagine the definitive bridge between the events of the two Life is Strange).

Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Episode 2: The New World - Review

Before the Storm is a white fly in today's video game landscape, but a fly we've already come to love, also with great courage in exploring certainly not easy issues but very current, with the same light-hearted tone and the same sincerity of its protagonist Chloe Price.
