    - Are you guys ready?
    - Yes, Mr. Captain.
    - I haven't heard right.
    - YES YES, GNOR CAPTAIN!

If these words sound familiar to you too, you will surely remember SpongeBob SquarePants, the nice yellow sponge who lives at the bottom of the sea with his friends. The guys at Purple Lamp Studios are grappling with SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, remake of the famous game dedicated to Spongebob released in 2003 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and PC. During Gamescom 2019 we were guests of THQ Nordic, publisher of the game, to try it in preview with our hands. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, according to the developers, will see the light when it is ready, most likely along the course of 2020. The title will be published on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and each version will have an independent development and therefore will not be mere ports. from the development version of your choice. The developers also hinted that, in addition to rebuilding the game from scratch, they will add new levels, new boss fights and new characters.

The demo, lasting about 15 minutes, opens with Sqiddi Tentacle chased and subsequently attacked by violent jellyfish: his only hope is to ask for help from nearby Spongebob. Our task in this adventure will be to eliminate the queen jellyfish that will be waiting for us at the end of the level. As it was with the original title, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is a platform-type game where, in addition to collecting coins and killing enemies by shooting bubbles, it will be possible to obtain collectibles and will be required to solve various environmental puzzles. Along the playing areas we will also find underwear to collect, which will represent our life: we can collect up to a maximum of four and, once all are finished, our yellow sponge will be forced to start from the last checkpoint.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, given the audience to which it is aimed, turns out to be extremely simple, but at the same time it manages to entertain, both because it is an undemanding game and therefore lets you play without too many thoughts, and because you find yourself catapulted into the world of Spongebob is a blast. In this demo we were able to observe only two types of enemies that in turn had two variants: the jellyfish - in pink, the most harmless, and blue, more aggressive and able to hit us with a nice electric discharge - and robots, in version with and without hammer. At the end of the demo, of course, Boss was the queen medusa, more difficult than the other enemies, but still easy to defeat. According to the developers at the end of each level there will be Bosses or Super Bosses to defeat. The latter will be nothing more than the evil version of the characters that we have been able to adore both in the cartoon on TV and in the video game. In the final version of the game, in addition to Spongebob, we will be able to impersonate other protagonists of the animated series as Patrick Stella and Sandy Cheeks, in order to make the gameplay more diversified and fun.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated on a technical level turns out to be a very pleasing game, with lots of colors on the screen. The settings are rich in vegetation and are very reminiscent of the locations that we could admire in the cartoon. The textures are excellent and of a good level, given and considered the type of game. The polygonal models, both of the enemies and the protagonists, are really well done and with a good definition: Spongebob and Squidward, despite being 3D models, are practically identical to the television counterpart. The sound is also of excellent level: during the demo we will be accompanied by music inspired by those present in the animated series, which will transform defeating the various enemies into a very pleasant visual and auditory experience.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated: Tested - Gamescom 2019

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a game with a high level of challenge, know that this title will not be for you because the clashes, at least from what we have seen in the demo, are very simple and designed in favor of extremely users. young. The technical sector is really pleasant both on a visual level, due to the multitude of colors and for the polygonal models of the characters made with extreme care, and on an auditory level, due to the music inspired by that of the TV series.
