The Amazon game of The Lord of the Rings has been canceled

Discussions between Amazon Game Studios and Tencent would have wrecked the project.

According to a report published by Bloomberg, it seems that the game based on the world of de The Lord of the Rings announced in 2019 by Amazon Game Studios would have been canceled.

The title should have been a Online RPG, with the development that involved not only the Amazon studies but also the Asian team Leyou Technologies. Following the acquisition of the latter group by Tencent, a dispute with Amazon would have arisen, a discussion that would then have led to the cancellation of the project as a final consequence.

This project is just the latest on the list of several works already trashed by Amazon Game Studios over the years. Especially compared to previous releases, a videogame work on The Lord of the Rings would have guaranteed a remarkable fascination for the public, also thanks to the imminent release of the Amazon TV series based on the world created by the pen of JRR Tolkien.
