The Witcher 3: Switch tested - Gamescom 2019

The Witcher 3: Switch tested - Gamescom 2019

When we talk about CD Projekt RED and the world around it, we can immediately understand the mammoth work that the software house has managed to do over the last few years. The history of this software house may be subdued for some, but not for those who have loved and followed the saga of The Witcher since the dawn of the "small" Polish studio. During these last years, CD Projekt RED has been able to conquer all video game enthusiasts, churning out titles like The Witcher 3: the latter has managed to exceed 20 million copies sold and to bring more than 800 awards during events dedicated to the world. videogame.

As you well know, during E3 in Los Angeles the Polish software house surprisingly announced the arrival of The Witcher 3 also for Nintendo Switch, of course with some compromises: during this Gamescom 2019 we had the opportunity to try the title on the small Nintendo console and trust me, the result is quite stunning.

During our test, we immediately noticed the great work done by CD Projekt RED in bringing a title like this to a console with certainly not performing hardware: despite some compromises that you will sincerely notice right away, this latest multimedia work pushes the potential of Nintendo Switch to the maximum, giving us a result that we did not expect at all.

The demo we played immersed us in the prologue of the title and in the mission of the griffin: for those who were able to play The Witcher 3 on console will immediately notice the downgrade of this version but trust me, it is not to be underestimated and is not inferior to what you have seen in the official trailers. Let's face it, graphically it is not what we expected from CD Projekt RED, but we appreciate the desire and the work done by the team in bringing a title like this to a console designed primarily for portability.

We noticed some problems during the fights and horseback riding: that's where the title showed us the first signs of weakness. We happened several times to notice some smudged textures, incredible pop-up effects and somewhat worrying frame rate drops; but we have been assured that the title is still under development and updating.

Most likely, on day one a corrective patch will be released for us to enjoy this huge and fantastic title. According to what has been declared, it is not yet clear how much exactly the weight of this version will be, but it has been confirmed that it will exceed 32 GB of space.

Despite some compromises, The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch convinced us enough to positively evaluate this version of the title which will be available starting next October 15th. For the most avid collectors, the physical version of The Witcher 3 is available which includes the following contents: the two DLCs released, the game map, some stickers and the official soundtrack.

Unfortunately, at the moment, we have no further information on this, but we will update you as soon as we know more about this fantastic port from CD Projekt RED.

What do you think about it? Will you buy the Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3? Stay tuned for more previews from Gamescom 2019!
