When darkness falls on the streets, even a placid town of just XNUMX souls can become a dangerous place, and I am here today to present to you a curious unsolved case from my personal files that took place in Thimbleweed Park: a now infamous place, which saw its birth thanks to Kickstarter.

Thimbleweed Park was built by a certain Ron Gilbert, some guys with a good memory remember it for certain raids on Monkey Island, then you can imagine how life goes: times pass, technology advances and your name is forgotten, you finish then to play the weekly pay in some bar that helps you not to think about where you are.

Then that Kickstarter devilry, which for some can also mean a great stroke of luck, and here is Gilbert back to come up with projects, in particular that dunghill of Thimbleweed Park: now become an epidemic, coming to Xbox One, PC, and now , Nintendo Switch.

I decided to show you my investigations on this latest version, take a drink, you will need it.

44 caliber

At the gates of 1987 Thimbleweed Park has now become a shadow of itself: numerous shops have now closed, the streets are almost always deserted and the eighty people left in the city are mostly crazy guys. From plumbers who walk around dressed as giant pigeons, vendors of curses and stoned shop assistants, now there is hardly anyone with a grain of salt in their nourishment.

That the city was a powder keg ready to explode was understood, no order or law, all in the hands of phantom machines that issue arrest warrants. It is precisely in a desolate night that the crime takes place: a man slain, with his face sunk in the mud, under the bridge that connects the town to the state road.

Two FBI agents arrive at the crime scene, a man and a woman who had never met before, but who seem to have other interests than just murder. the site of the investigation seems to hide much more than dust and bewildered people.

I will tell you honestly, this is one of the most succulent cases that I have come across, one of the most original and absurd I've ever seen in my career. At first all the traces seemed simple enough: a murder, an investigation to be done, someone to arrest. However, as the two agents talked to the few locals other elements emerged, through flashbacks you could get to know other rather unique characters: a foul-mouthed and irritating clown who had offended the wrong person and a girl too young for her IQ. , with the dream of being a video game programmer.

Now I know it will seem strange to you, but in my dossier there is the evidence that these four souls have crossed in that remote city, and something big was moving, but I don't want to spoil the surprise, you investigate if you have the guts. Those four types will be able from a certain point onwards to be commanded at any time, exchange items and more, and I'll tell you more: to get to the bottom of this ugly business you'll have to get this crazy gang to work together.

Old Style

I already imagine that as a good detective your mouth is watering, but you must know well the case you are about to face: let's talk about a graphic adventure, those point and click in the good old way.

No "generic interactions" here dear ones, every time you want to do something you will have to specify well the action to be performed with the items in your inventory. A way of doing a little more mechanical, certainly, but in full respect of an old tradition like the whiskey I have in my glass as I speak to you.

And I'll tell you more, you will have to choose how to deal with this case at the beginning of the investigation: you can select a "casual" approach (and you will solve the mystery in just eight hours) or "expert": the difference lies in the number of puzzles to be faced. , is if you have the courage, I suggest you take the hardest route, certainly more satisfying for the most experienced detectives.

But we're here to talk about that latest Japanese devilry, yeah, using that damn tablet even for someone belonging to the "old school" is definitely a pleasure: I myself will have used the television very few times, captured by the temptation to touch the phone keys, the evidence I collected in my inventory and the pages of documents. This version of the case has just that extra Je ne sais quoi.

The last glass

Even what you will see will be really old style my dear, pixel upon pixel, yet so well done that it shows Thimbleweed Park for the crazy place it is. Even the poor unfortunates who cross their paths will be made in an excellent way, all recognizable and some truly charismatic: especially that Clown I was talking about before, that one sends anyone to that country. The noir atmosphere was therefore fully rendered, even through soft accompanying music.

If you haven't been taught English at the police academy, don't worry, apart from the dubbing it's all localized in Spanish. now it's up to you: will you solve the mystery of Thimbleweed Park? The case is yours.

Thimbleweed Park - Switch Review

Thimbleweed Park is the demonstration of how old-fashioned graphic adventures can still say so much today: great script and well-structured puzzles, without forgetting the greatest difficulty for fans of the genre. The Switch version enjoys the touch screen and portability, a surplus compared to the versions on platforms that are not mobile. You just have to let yourself be captured by the true spirit of graphic adventures.
